Job Description

This Field Service Technician role is based out of Throop, PA and focuses on servicing, maintaining, and repairing industrial food processing equipment, primarily in meat processing plants across the United States and Canada. The position is ideal for candidates with experience in mechatronics, industrial maintenance, or related fields such as automotive or diesel technology, who enjoy hands-on technical work, extensive travel, and direct interaction with customers.

Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair industrial food processing equipment at customer facilities and in-house.
• Provide operator, maintenance, sanitation, and personnel training both in the shop and at customer locations.
• Conduct in-house and in-field equipment demonstrations to support customer understanding and proper use.
• Deliver customer support via phone and email, including PLC, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting.
• Prepare equipment for delivery by performing pre-delivery inspections, setup, and configuration.
• Rebuild, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on customer machines in-house and in the field.
• Perform building maintenance and general housekeeping duties within the shop and training facility.
• Travel extensively, typically 4–6 days at a time, across the continental United States and Canada to service customer equipment.
• Document service activities clearly and communicate findings and recommendations to customers and internal teams.
• Operate computers and related software to access schematics, service documentation, and communication tools.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and servicing of industrial equipment.
• Experience in mechatronics, automotive technology, diesel technology, or similar technical disciplines.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work on mechanical systems approximately 75% of the time.
• Ability to perform electrical work and electrical troubleshooting approximately 25% of the time.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing PLC-controlled equipment, including reading and interpreting PLC-related documentation.
• Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical drive systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Competence in welding, fabrication, and basic machine shop practices.
• Experience in electrical maintenance, including calibration and repair of electro-mechanical systems.
• Comfort with computer operation for accessing technical information and communicating with customers and colleagues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for training, documentation, and customer support.
• Self-motivation and the ability to work independently while traveling extensively.
• Willingness and ability to travel 50%–70% of the time throughout the continental United States and Canada, including weekends.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree in a technical field, equivalent technical training, or appropriate hands-on experience.
• Experience with electronics, including AC/DC drives and inverters.
• Experience with PLCs and electro-mechanical systems in an industrial environment.
• Prior work in industrial food processing, meat plants, or similar production environments is beneficial.
• Previous experience as an automotive or diesel technician is highly relevant.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
• Ability to provide clear, effective training to operators and maintenance personnel.
• Organizational skills to manage travel schedules, service calls, and documentation efficiently.

Work Environment

The role is based at a shop and training facility in Throop, PA, where equipment is prepared, maintained, and used for training and demonstrations. Field work occurs primarily in meat processing plants, focusing on industrial meat slicers and related food processing machinery. Technicians typically travel across 48 states and Canada, spending an average of 4–6 days on the road per trip, with frequent weekend work. The environment combines hands-on shop work, on-site plant service, and extensive travel, requiring comfort with industrial settings, production floors, and working around food processing operations.

This is a Permanent position based out of Throop, PA.

The pay range for this position is $63357.00 - $81242.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
