Position Summary:
We are currently seeking an experiencedHorizontal Boring Mill Operatorto set up and operatemanual and CNC horizontal boring millsto produce high-precision, large-scale components. The ideal candidate will have experience with large part machining, strong knowledge of blueprint reading, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC horizontal boring mills (including work with 90 x 180 CNC envelopes)
- Machine parts to close tolerances as specified by engineering drawings and work instructions
- Select proper tooling, make tool offsets, and input basic CNC code adjustments as needed
- Use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, and bore gauges to ensure part accuracy
- Load and align large workpieces using overhead cranes and fixtures
- Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and customer specifications
- Perform routine maintenance and care of machines and tooling
- Document production and inspection results; maintain job traveler accuracy
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to meet job requirements
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school certification a plus
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating horizontal boring mills (manual and/or CNC)
- Strong blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) skills
- Familiarity with Fanuc or similar CNC controls preferred
- Ability to work with large components, heavy lifting (with crane assistance), and tight tolerances
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to producing high-quality, precision work with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience with CNC vertical boring mills and CNC turning centers (up to 90 dia. x 60 height)
- Familiarity with automatic tool changers and through-spindle coolant systems
- Overhead crane certification or experience handling heavy parts
- Experience machining for industries such as power generation, aerospace, orforgings
