Job Description

We are seeking aDental Assistant 1to join our dynamic team in the School of Dental Medicine’s Department of Comprehensive Care. The ideal candidate will have strong experience inchairside assisting and four-handed dentistryand a proven ability tosupport DMD students, maintain clinical readiness, and manage program documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist third- and fourth-year students daily using four-handed dentistry in School of Dental Medicine and assigned community centers.
  • Support Cedar Avenue archive project, including boxing, logging, filing, retrieval, and disposition of paper charts.
  • Maintain an Excel database tracking hours, type, and length of Dental Auxiliary Utilization (DAU) experiences for each student.
  • Assist students according to schedules set by the Clinical PCC Supervisor and site faculty.
  • Manage the caries risk assessment program, including incubation of bacterial cultures and reporting results to students and leadership.
  • Apply infection control procedures and promptly report non-compliance to the Director of Clinical Operations.
  • Provide front desk coverage as needed for patient care coordinators and telecommunications.
  • Ensure clinic cleanliness and readiness; provide dental assisting within the school as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3+ months chairside assisting experience in general dentistry, including four-handed dentistry.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Dental assistant certification, radiographic license, and current annual CPR certification.
  • OSHA and HIPAA certifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and scheduling software; ability to maintain accurate Excel records.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and perform duties in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and effective teamwork and independent work capabilities.
  • Commitment to student support aligned with university values and policies on conflict of commitment and interest.
  • Willingness to learn and work with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.
  • Consistent attendance and ability to interact in person with colleagues, supervisors, customers, and students.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a dental education setting or community clinic rotations.
  • Familiarity with caries risk assessment workflows and culture incubation procedures.
