Must Haves:

  • 3+ years of Tooling Design experience in a manufacturing environment
  • CAD experience for tooling and component design (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Experience with machining and/or tool making
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, dimensioning, and material selection
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams (Electrical, Controls, Product, Quality, Manufacturing)
  • Experience supporting low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field

Plusses:

  • Hands-on machining experience
  • Experience designing fixtures, jigs, dies, or custom tooling
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment
  • Exposure to connector, electronics, or precision manufacturing
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Team Structure:

  • Collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Quality, Electrical, and Controls teams
  • Reports into the Engineering organization and supports production operations

Job Description:

Insight Global is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer for a full-time opportunity in the New Albany, Indiana area. The Tooling Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and improving tooling, fixtures, components, and manufacturing equipment that support production operations within a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. This individual will utilize CAD software to create detailed tooling and component designs while ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, material requirements, and manufacturing standards. The Tooling Design Engineer will work closely with machining, manufacturing, quality, product, electrical, and controls engineering teams to develop solutions that improve production efficiency, quality, and overall equipment performance. This person will be responsible for activities including tolerancing, dimensioning, material selection, tooling design, and supporting projects with varying timelines and levels of complexity. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of machining processes, tooling design principles, and manufacturing operations, while demonstrating the ability to effectively communicate across multiple technical disciplines. Candidates should be prepared to provide examples of tooling or component designs they have created, the tightest tolerances they have worked with, and how they have collaborated with engineering teams to successfully deliver manufacturing solutions.
