Job Description

The Quality Engineer oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s Quality Management System, ensuring full compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry standards such as ISO 9001 and AS9100. This role leads quality planning for new parts, manages non-conforming material processes, and directs inspection and testing activities to maintain the highest standards of product quality. The Quality Manager collaborates closely with engineering, manufacturing, and inspection teams to ensure processes are executed correctly and consistently, and serves as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, suppliers, customers, and external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Develop, update, and maintain the Quality Control System to meet customer requirements and internal company standards.
• Plan and execute quality activities for new parts in accordance with customer and company specifications.
• Review non-conforming materials for disposition using non-conformance reports, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to define and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Lead the non-conforming materials process, including interdepartmental coordination and customer-facing root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities, ensuring issues are resolved to closure.
• Drive cost improvement and productivity initiatives within the quality and inspection areas while maintaining product and process integrity.
• Conduct internal and external audits of suppliers, processes, and the Quality Management System to ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, AS9102, and other relevant industry standards.
• Develop internal inspection points as needed and perform inspections in accordance with process specifications and customer requirements.
• Coordinate on-site and remote source inspections conducted by government and non-government entities.
• Perform inspections in accordance with engineering drawings and in-process specifications, ensuring that nonconformance reports are communicated to the team and that supplier notifications are issued for root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Execute inspection and testing processes to verify product quality, including the preparation and completion of First Article Inspection (FAI) and AS9102 reports.
• Plan and manage activities related to the development, application, and maintenance of the company’s quality system across engineering, manufacturing, and inspection functions.
• Launch and manage internal, customer, and supplier audits, including preparation, execution, follow-up, and closure of audit findings.
• Manage the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9102, and related standards, ensuring documentation, procedures, and records remain current and effective.
• Oversee customer management and contract review from a quality perspective, ensuring requirements are clearly understood, documented, and implemented.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities, using structured problem-solving methods to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
• Prepare and deliver clear, concise technical reports, business correspondence, procedures, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and other departments to ensure inspection and manufacturing processes are aligned with quality requirements and best practices.
• Use Microsoft Office and related applications to analyze data, track quality metrics, and present numerical information effectively.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by leadership to support overall quality and operational objectives.

Essential Skills

• Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a quality role, preferably in a manufacturing or aerospace-related environment.
• Strong background in quality control, quality assurance, and quality management systems.
• Hands-on experience with ISO 9001 and AS9100, including preparation for certification or recertification.
• Experience managing a Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001, AS9100, and AS9102 standards.
• Proven experience launching and managing internal, customer, and supplier audits.
• Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis and corrective action (RCCA), including supplier notification and follow-up.
• Practical experience in quality inspection and testing processes, including First Article Inspection (FAI) and AS9102 reporting.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex business and technical information, including drawings and specifications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and other stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages, and to present numerical data effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant applications for data analysis, documentation, and presentations.
• Solid problem-solving skills and solution-driven thinking, with acute attention to detail.
• Ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions and to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• AS9100 certification is highly desired.
• Professional certifications through ASQ such as CMQ (Certified Quality Manager), CQA (Certified Quality Auditor), CQI (Certified Quality Improvement Associate), and CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) are highly desired.
• Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in support of inspection and quality activities.
• Experience in supplier quality, including supplier audits and performance management.
• Experience in customer management and contract review from a quality perspective.
• Familiarity with EMS and related standards within the context of QMS management.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in aerospace or close-tolerance precision manufacturing environments is a strong plus.

Work Environment

You will work in a collaborative team of approximately 10 employees, closely partnering with the engineering group and other operational functions. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a structured daytime workweek. The environment emphasizes precision, documentation, and adherence to established quality and international standards, with calibrated inspection equipment and robust record-keeping practices supporting daily activities.

This is a Permanent position based out of Piedmont, SC.

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
