We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a wholesale distribution organization in Chamblee, Georgia in a contract capacity with the potential for a permanent position. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close activities, and delivering reporting that helps business leaders make informed decisions. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Support the monthly close cycle by evaluating ledger activity, recording journal entries, and preparing detailed backup documentation.
• Complete account reconciliations across balance sheet and cash accounts, ensuring discrepancies are researched and resolved promptly.
• Examine financial reports for accuracy, identify unusual fluctuations, and follow through on variance investigations.
• Create monthly budget-to-actual reporting for departments, summarize key drivers behind variances, and share results with leadership teams.
• Assist with the development of annual budgets and ongoing forecasts by compiling data, reviewing assumptions, and contributing financial insight.
• Maintain weekly cash flow reporting by tracking payment activity and confirming vendor disbursements are properly reflected.
• Prepare sales tax filings and help uphold compliance with applicable reporting and regulatory requirements.
• Recommend improvements to accounting workflows, internal controls, and automation opportunities to strengthen efficiency and accuracy.
• Provide requested financial information for internal stakeholders, external auditors, and bank review processes as needed.
• Demonstrated accounting experience with increasing responsibility in a detail-focused business environment.
• Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accrual-based accounting practices, and core matching principles.
• Strong ability to organize work, balance competing priorities, and meet recurring deadlines with accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with a careful, detail-focused approach to financial data.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret information, investigate issues, and support practical business solutions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, data sifting, data management).
• Collaborative work style with the ability to contribute effectively across teams in a matrixed organization.
• Experience with accounting platforms such as NetSuite or Oracle is preferred.
