Machine Saw Operator

The Machine Saw Operator plays a key role in accurately cutting metal materials to meet customer specifications while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work area. This position involves operating saws and material handling equipment, performing inventory control for each work order, and ensuring all processing follows written work instructions and quality standards. The role is based in a warehouse and production environment with multiple shift options available.

• Apply metal to customer orders and accurately process material according to work order specifications and set-up notes.
• Operate saws and related processing equipment to cut materials to precise dimensions, following blueprints and written work instructions.
• Properly and safely set up equipment to run material according to set-up note specifications.
• Pull, inspect, and verify product before processing to ensure it matches order requirements.
• Verify that product meets set-up note specifications and record measurements according to sampling plans.
• Handle inventory control for each work order, using basic math skills to track and reconcile material usage.
• Operate cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Properly enter and delete material identification tags in accordance with written instructions.
• Operate weighing scales and record inspection measurements accurately.
• Identify, record, and segregate scrap and any non-conforming material in line with quality procedures.
• Assist in the packaging of material according to written work instructions and work orders.
• Maintain issued measurement equipment, such as tape measures and other tools, in proper working condition.
• Perform equipment preventive maintenance to support safe and reliable operation.
• Maintain the processing area in a clean, safe, and orderly manner, including general clean-up duties.
• Communicate with appropriate sales representatives regarding order changes or clarifications when needed.
• Provide feedback to supervision regarding machine efficiency, product quality, and potential improvements.
• Complete all required information entry accurately in applicable systems.
• Train other team members on equipment operation and procedures when required.
• Assist in activities related to lean initiatives and quality improvement efforts.
• Perform all job responsibilities in a manner that does not put oneself or others in an unsafe situation.

• Minimum of 2+ years of saw operation experience working with metals such as sheet metal and aluminum, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• At least 3+ years of warehouse experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and write to follow work instructions, blueprints, and set-up notes.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to perform basic math skills for inventory control and measurement calculations.
• Proficiency in reading rulers and tape measures to ensure accurate cuts.
• Ability to interpret and work from blueprints to run saws to specification.
• Experience operating saws, including bandsaws and other industrial cutting equipment.
• Certification or ability to become certified in material handler duties.
• Ability to operate forklifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment safely.
• Basic computer literacy to enter and manage work order and inventory information.

• Previous warehouse experience, especially in the metals industry.
• Previous forklift operation experience in a production or warehouse setting.
• Experience using handheld measuring tools for quality checks.
• Experience with machine operation and machine set-up, including press brake, punch press, drill press, CNC, and other industrial equipment.
• Familiarity with waterjet cutting and bandsaw operation.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where materials are cut to meet specific customer requirements.
• Attention to detail and strong focus on product quality and accuracy.
• Willingness to participate in lean and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role is based in a warehouse and production environment that involves working around industrial saws, material handling equipment, and metal products. The facility operates multiple shifts, including 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and 3rd shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Other related departments may run standard daytime schedules such as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The work setting requires adherence to safety procedures, proper use of equipment such as forklifts, cranes, saws, and measuring tools, and consistent attention to cleanliness and organization in the processing area. The pace is fairly quick, with materials being cut to meet specific customer requirements in a production-focused environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
