About the Role:
As the Mechanical Project Manager, you will oversee commercial mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget. You will be accountable for project planning, coordination, and financial performance while serving as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders. Your leadership will directly impact project quality, profitability, and the development of junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all phases of commercial mechanical construction projects, from preconstruction planning through commissioning and closeout.
- Develop, maintain, and track project schedules, budgets, and forecasts to meet contractual and internal performance targets.
- Coordinate daily with owners, general contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and field teams to align project scope, sequencing, and resources.
- Oversee project financial performance, including cost tracking, change order management, and billing in collaboration with internal finance teams.
- Review and manage contracts, submittals, RFIs, drawings, and other project documentation to ensure clarity and compliance.
- Lead regular project and coordination meetings, providing clear progress updates, risk identification, and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
- Support procurement activities, including sourcing, negotiating, and scheduling delivery of equipment and materials to meet project timelines.
- Mentor Project Engineers and other junior staff, providing guidance on project execution, technical issues, and professional development.
- Drive a strong safety culture on-site by supporting and enforcing company safety policies and project-specific safety plans.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Project Manager overseeing commercial mechanical construction projects.
- Demonstrated background working with HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, or hydronic systems on large-scale commercial builds.
- Track record of successfully managing project budgets, schedules, and client expectations from award through closeout.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction means and methods, project lifecycle management, and field installation practices.
- Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office Suite for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and contracts, and translate them into actionable work plans for field teams.
- Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and resolve issues quickly.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects or phases concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience managing mechanical projects in sectors such as healthcare, commercial office, higher education, industrial/manufacturing, hospitality, mission critical/data centers, or institutional facilities.
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC workflows and coordination processes on mechanical projects.
- Previous experience working for a mechanical contractor or specialty subcontractor in the Milwaukee or broader Wisconsin market.
- Exposure to lean construction principles, prefabrication strategies, or other productivity-enhancing methodologies.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior project staff within a structured project delivery environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and extensive mechanical construction experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in a mechanical project management role within commercial construction.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CCM, PE, or industry-specific credentials) are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites within the region as required.
