Senior Electrical Engineer (PE)
Location: Houston, TX (or as assigned)
Salary: Competitive Base Salary + 11% Annual Bonus
Reports To: Manager, Electrical Engineering
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (PE) to support the Project Development team in the design, development, and execution of industrial capital projects throughout the Americas. This role will be responsible for electrical scope development, engineering estimates, electrical system design reviews, equipment specifications, testing, and commissioning support across industrial plant environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with industrial plant electrical systems, including medium-voltage distribution, substations, transformers, E-Houses, power studies, and full project lifecycle execution from concept through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project development activities by defining electrical scopes, engineering requirements, and cost estimates.
- Develop and review electrical engineering deliverables for capital and service projects.
- Lead electrical design efforts for:
- Electrical Houses (E-Houses)
- Medium-voltage systems
- Substations
- Transformers
- Power distribution systems
- MCCs and switchgear
- Cable tray systems
- Conduit and cable installations
- Lighting and grounding systems
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and third-party engineering firms to establish project requirements and electrical calculations.
- Review and approve electrical equipment, controls, fabrication packages, and vendor drawings.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for Power Distribution Centers (PDCs), large motors, and related electrical equipment.
- Provide construction support, commissioning support, and field troubleshooting assistance.
- Support plant operations and maintenance teams by resolving electrical reliability and performance issues.
- Coordinate with utility providers to develop cost-effective energy solutions for new and existing facilities.
- Assist project teams with estimating and maintaining Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
- Ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and all applicable federal, state, and local codes.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight to engineering consultants, designers, and contractors as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience within:
- Industrial manufacturing facilities
- Chemical or petrochemical plants
- Engineering & Construction (E&C) environments
- Process industry operations
- Experience leading projects through the full lifecycle, including design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Medium-voltage power systems
- Substations and transformers
- Electrical distribution systems
- Motor control centers (MCCs)
- Switchgear
- Grounding and lighting systems
- Experience reviewing vendor drawings, electrical calculations, and design packages.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs and develop electrical one-line diagrams.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards including:
- Experience performing or reviewing:
- Power demand studies
- Motor starting studies
- Short circuit studies
- Coordination studies
- Arc flash studies
- Advanced proficiency with SKM PowerTools and/or ETAP.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing and supporting Electrical Houses (E-Houses).
- Experience in gases, chemical processing, cryogenic facilities, air separation plants, hydrogen (HYCO), or SMR technologies.
- Experience supporting large industrial capital projects.
- Prior utility coordination experience.
- Experience supervising engineering contractors, designers, or field construction teams.
