Machine Operator

Position: Assistant Machine Operator PCV
Location: McDonough, GA
Schedule: 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM / 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Pay: $20.00/hour

Job Summary

We are hiring an Assistant Machine Operator for a client in McDonough, GA. This role supports the Machine Operator in the proper maintenance and operation of converting equipment, including label laminators, specialty gluers, flatbed die cutters, and flexo printers. The ideal candidate has strong corrugated manufacturing experience and a solid safety and quality background.

Responsibilities

• Transfer cardboard from pallet to machine

• Watch machines for jams and clear them as needed

• Reset or align machine to proper adjustment after a jam occurs

• Notify the Machine Operator of malfunctions or continual problems

• Assist the Machine Operator on set-ups and changeovers

• Sweep and mop when the machine is down and work area tasks are complete; maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workspace

• Communicate well with other assistant operators at shift change

• Follow LOTO (lock out, tag out) procedure when a machine is inoperable

• Inspect equipment before use for proper setup and alignment; perform basic adjustments and scheduled preventive maintenance

• Operate production machinery and execute projects per job card and CAD specifications

• Review and analyze information to confirm it meets project requirements

• Accurately interpret work orders, including board grade, sheet size and scores, required tooling, labeling instructions, and pallet pattern/stacking procedure

• Produce the required quantity of parts within tolerance

• Measure finished parts with a tape measure to ensure compliance with function, quality, and cosmetic specs

• Eliminate or avoid waste (overproduction, excess motion, excess processing, etc.)

• Log and record units produced, scrap/rejects, and downtime with reasons in job card, daily production report, and production tracker

• Confirm every pallet is properly identified with its WIP tag, verify correct quantities, and apply proper dunnage

• Complete tasks accurately and on time, independently and as part of a team

• Minimize changeover or setup time

• Address machine, tooling, or consumable issues affecting productivity or deadlines

• Promote safety, quality, housekeeping, and good environmental practices

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Must Haves

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a corrugated manufacturing environment

• Experience with flexo presses and die cutters

• Strong background in safety, operations, and business

• In-depth process knowledge, results-driven approach, and strong communication skills

• Data entry experience related to production reporting

• Ability to read and interpret order specs and schedules, and interface with machine controls

• Ability to read and use a tape measure, including basic math with adding/subtracting fractions

• 2 years of experience in the corrugated industry

Preferred Skills

• Data entry experience with KIWI

• 2 years of flexo press experience

• Previous experience in consumer packaging and printing

• Experience as both an Operator and Assistant Operator
