Residential Program Operator - Cheshire CT

GIL Foundation Inc. is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and organized Residential Program Operator to lead and support our community-based residential program in Cheshire.
This is a hands-on leadership position focused on people, relationships, quality services, and day-to-day operations. The Program Operator works closely with staff, individuals supported, families, and community partners to ensure that services are safe, person-centered, compliant, and consistent with GIL Foundation’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
About the Program
This is an established and well-supported community residence serving five wonderful individuals, with four residents participating in in-house day programs.
The program is supported by:
- 2 Assistant Program Managers
- 10–15 Direct Support Professionals
- A dedicated team committed to providing high-quality care and support
We are looking for someone who has a strong background in human services, residential services, or a related field and is ready to take on a meaningful leadership role within an organization that has been serving individuals and families since 1985.
If you have experience as a Leader, Role Model, Assistant Manager, or similar human services professional, you may already have a strong understanding of what this role requires.

Key Responsibilities
Program & Individual Support
- Oversee daily program operations and community-based services.
- Ensure services are person-centered and promote independence, inclusion, and personal choice.
- Build positive relationships with individuals supported, families, and community partners.
- Explore opportunities for personal expression, new experiences, recreation, and meaningful family interaction.
- Respond to concerns, incidents, and service needs promptly and professionally.
Staff Leadership
- Supervise, support, and mentor Direct Support Professionals.
- Coordinate staff scheduling, training, and daily program needs.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and accountability to the residential team.
- Work closely with the two Assistant Program Managers to delegate responsibilities and maintain effective program operations.
Program & Facility Management
- Oversee medical, financial, programmatic, recreational, and facility-related needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with agency and state requirements.
- Ensure the residence remains safe, organized, and appropriately maintained.
- Maintain familiarity with Connecticut DDS regulations and requirements.
Schedule & Availability
- Because this is a24-hour residential program supporting individuals with significant needs, flexibility and availability are important.
- The Residential Program Operator must be willing to respond to the needs of the program and provide leadership outside of a traditional 9–5 schedule when necessary.
- The program is supported by two dedicated Assistant Program Managers, who assist with program assignments and responsibilities.
- Subject-to-call responsibilities are shared and rotated among the management team to distribute the workload and reduce the burden on any one individual.
Required Certifications
The following certifications must be obtained and approved in accordance with GIL Foundation policy:
- State Medication Administration Certification
- CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- PMT – Physical Management Techniques
- First Aid
