Position Overview
The company is seeking a detailed-oriented Project Accountant to join its 5-person accounting team. In this role, the candidate will manage project accounting and billings for a portfolio of diverse projects ranging from small-scale jobs to large developments.
The successful candidate will start with a light workload of 4–5 projects to onboard smoothly, eventually scaling up to managing 10–15 active jobs at a time. This role focuses heavily on cost-plus billing and subcontractor management, requiring excellent communication skills and high attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Billing & Documentation: Execute subcontractor billings and owner billings, including full back-up documentation and invoice verification.
- Cost-Plus Accounting: Process monthly project billings with an emphasis on cost-plus accounting models using AIA formats (G702/G703).
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Proactively follow up with project managers, superintendents, and trade partners over the phone and via email to resolve billing delays and ensure compliance.
- Peak Volume Management: Work closely with the accounting team during peak billing periods (typically the last two weeks of each month) to meet deadlines accurately.
- System Integration: Utilize industry accounting platforms to process workflows, maintain billing accuracy, and support transitioning software platforms.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.
- Industry Background: 2+ years of accounting or project billing experience specifically within the General Contracting / Commercial Construction industry.
- Billing Expertise: Hands-on knowledge of G702 and G703 project billing protocols, cost-plus billing structures, and subcontractor compliance.
- Software Familiarity: Experience using construction management and accounting software such as Textura, Procore, Sage 300, or CMiC is highly preferred.
- Communication & Detail: Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive mindsetwilling to pick up the phone to track down information and clear bottlenecks.
- Career Stability: Demonstrated history of long-term stability with previous employers.
