Maintenance and Operations Supervisor

Position Summary

Welch's is looking for a Maintenance and Production Supervisor to serve as a key technical and operational leader at our Westfield, New York grape-processing facility. As the second-in-command at this close-knit, approximately 30-person plant, you'll work alongside the Plant Operations Manager to help lead day-to-day operations, maintain critical plant systems, and ensure the facility is ready to perform during our fast-paced harvest season and beyond.

This is a broad, hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to the operation and wants to make a visible impact. You'll lead a small maintenance and processing team, troubleshoot equipment and facility challenges, and help drive safety, reliability, productivity, and continuous improvement within a union environment. We are looking for individuals who do have strong foundational technical backgrounds within maintenance specifically.

Where You'll Work

This role is based at our grape-processing facility in Westfield, New York. As one of the plant's primary leaders, you'll have visibility across the entire operation and the opportunity to directly influence how the facility performs.

What You'll Do

• Partner closely with the Plant Operations Manager to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility.
• Lead and supervise a small team responsible for maintenance and processing activities within a union environment.
• Oversee the maintenance and reliability of processing equipment, refrigeration systems, boilers, wastewater operations, buildings, and other critical plant infrastructure.
• Ensure the facility and its equipment are prepared for seasonal grape-processing operations.
• Inspect and test processing and packaging equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
• Set clear daily priorities for the team, monitor progress, and adjust resources based on plant needs.
• Train and develop mechanics in the proper setup, adjustment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of processing and seasonal-support equipment.
• Lead team meetings focused on safety, training, operational priorities, and problem-solving.
• Provide regular coaching and performance feedback to employees and help build accountability across the team.
• Apply the collective bargaining agreement consistently and partner with plant leadership to maintain productive union relationships.
• Troubleshoot equipment and operational issues, identify root causes, and implement practical, lasting solutions.
• Identify and lead opportunities to improve safety, equipment reliability, productivity, and plant performance.
• Step in as a broader plant leader when needed, including providing leadership coverage in the Plant Manager's absence.

Who You Are

• A hands-on leader who is equally comfortable guiding a team and stepping onto the plant floor to solve a problem.
• A strong troubleshooter who can quickly assess mechanical and operational challenges and determine the best path forward.
• Someone who enjoys the breadth, visibility, and accountability that come with leading in a smaller manufacturing facility.
• A clear and practical communicator who can build credibility with mechanics, operators, union employees, and plant leadership.
• Safety-minded, dependable, and able to remain calm and decisive during high-pressure seasonal operations.
• Experienced across electrical systems, PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, motion control, and mechanical systems.
• Familiar with food or beverage manufacturing environments; experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous-improvement methods is a plus.

What You'll Need

• At least four years of relevant maintenance and repair experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience supervising or leading maintenance employees.
• A demonstrated record of supporting workplace safety, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement.
• The ability to work safely on and around complex, automated manufacturing equipment in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
• The flexibility to adjust your schedule based on operational needs.
• This role primarily works day-shift hours but may occasionally provide coverage on alternate shifts, particularly during harvest season.
• Experience working in a union environment is preferred, but not required.

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 annually for U.S.-based employees. This range reflects Welch's good-faith estimate as of the date of posting and is based on a full-time work schedule. Individual compensation will be determined by factors including work location, relevant skills and experience, and education or training. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
