Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations and financial reporting for a multi-entity agriculture business based in Texas. This role will guide a team of accounting staff while ensuring accurate, timely reporting across feedyard, ethanol, and corporate activities. The position partners closely with operational leaders, finance teams, and external auditors to maintain strong controls and support informed business decisions.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and develop the accounting team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and growth.
• Direct monthly and annual close activities to ensure financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain strong internal controls and review financial activity across multiple locations to support reliable reporting.
• Prepare and distribute monthly financial packages for leadership and other authorized stakeholders.
• Evaluate commodity-related financial data, including cost and pricing relationships at the feedyard level.
• Oversee location-level closing work for cattle and commodity accounting and take ownership of final reported results.
• Manage the company-wide fixed asset program, including tracking, reporting, and control processes.
• Coordinate external financial, tax, and lender audits, serving as a key contact throughout each engagement.
• Use accounting and database tools to improve data extraction, analysis, and operational reporting.
• Contribute to special projects and additional corporate accounting initiatives as business needs evolve.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• CPA or CMA designation is preferred.
• At least 10 years of combined accounting and finance experience, including proven success in a Controller or similar leadership role.
• Strong command of GAAP, general ledger management, and month-end and year-end close procedures.
• Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements and supporting financial statement audits.
• Knowledge of commodities and derivative accounting within a complex operating environment.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 and accounting software, with the ability to learn specialized agriculture-related systems quickly.
