Sibanye-Stillwater is seeking an Associate Data Engineer to join our Business Intelligence Center of Excellence supporting the Recycling & Refining organization.
This hands-on role focuses on supporting the building and maintenance of the data pipelines, datasets, and technical solutions that support analytics, reporting, and data products across the business. It is particularly well suited for an experienced Data Analyst looking to transition into Data Engineering and expand their experience with SQL, Python, automation, data modeling, and cloud-based technologies.
What You'll Do

• Support building and maintaining data ingestion and transformation pipelines.
• Develop clean, reliable, and well-modeled datasets aligned with business requirements.
• Use SQL and Python to develop, maintain, and optimize data solutions.
• Monitor scheduled pipelines, troubleshoot failures, and support data incident resolution.
• Implement data quality checks to improve data accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
• Create dashboards and support reporting and analytics requirements.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual and repetitive business processes.
• Support integrations using REST APIs, JSON, and structured data sources.
• Maintain data lineage, technical documentation, and operational runbooks.
• Use version control and established development practices to manage code changes.
• Support data governance, security, access controls, and production quality standards.
• Contribute to evolving data architecture and engineering best practices.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of data analytics experience.
• Proficiency in SQL and working knowledge of Python.
• Understanding of data modeling and ETL/ELT concepts.
• Experience with Power BI or a similar visualization platform.
• Experience with business process automation.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–2 years of data engineering experience.
• Experience with data orchestration and Git-based version control.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON.
• Exposure to cloud data warehouse or Lakehouse environments.
• Familiarity with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
• Experience with Docker or similar containerization technologies.
• Relevant Azure or data management certifications.

About the Opportunity
The Associate Data Engineer is part of the Business Intelligence Center of Excellence being implemented across Sibanye-Stillwater's Recycling & Refining organization. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of our data infrastructure and engineering standards while continuing to build technical expertise in Data Engineering.
Candidates should be prepared to discuss examples of business problems solved through automation, data initiatives they have contributed to or led, and their experience using data and technology to improve business outcomes.
This position may require access to systems, data, or areas subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and NAID requirements. The successful candidate must meet all applicable eligibility and access requirements associated with the position. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements.
