Hardware / Component Engineer

Support a hardware development and manufacturing pipeline by turning component specifications into accurate packaging, storage, and handling requirements. This role protects electronic and mechanical components from moisture, electrostatic discharge, and physical damage as they move through the supply chain.

The strongest candidate has three to five years of component engineering or high-reliability electronics manufacturing experience and is comfortable interpreting detailed datasheets, package drawings, IPC/JEDEC requirements, and supplier technical documentation.

Pay Rate: $68.50-$80.25/hour

• Review component datasheets, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to determine physical, electrical, environmental, storage, and handling constraints.
• Define and document packaging and handling requirements for electronic and mechanical components, including tape-and-reel, tray, tube, and other approved configurations.
• Identify Moisture Sensitivity Level (MSL) and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) classifications and establish appropriate protective storage and handling instructions.
• Evaluate surface-mount, through-hole, BGA, QFN, and related component package types for manufacturing and supply-chain compatibility.
• Work with engineering, procurement, quality, logistics, component manufacturers, and distributors to resolve packaging or specification discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate component packaging, compliance, and approved-source data in PLM systems, internal component databases, and Approved Vendor Lists.
• Identify obsolete packaging configurations, incomplete supplier data, and noncompliant practices; recommend practical alternatives that reduce material and manufacturing risk.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Three to five years of component engineering, electronic hardware manufacturing, manufacturing quality, or closely related experience.
• Working knowledge of electronic component package types, including SMD, through-hole, BGA, and QFN devices.
• Applied knowledge of IPC/JEDEC moisture and reflow requirements, including J-STD-020 and J-STD-033, and ESD-control practices aligned with ANSI/ESD S20.20.
• Ability to interpret complex component datasheets, mechanical drawings, packaging specifications, and supplier technical documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional work with engineering, quality, procurement, logistics, and suppliers.
• U.S. citizenship is required for this role.

• Experience using PTC commonPDM or another enterprise PLM platform.
• Experience with SiliconExpert, IHS Markit, or a comparable component intelligence and lifecycle database.
• Background supporting aerospace, defense, avionics, high-reliability electronics, or another tightly controlled manufacturing environment.
• Experience maintaining AVL/AML data, supplier packaging metadata, lifecycle status, and compliance attributes.
