Job Description

The Tube Laser Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, and basic maintenance of the BLM LT8 tube laser system to cut metal tubing and profiles according to work orders and engineering drawings. This position may work independently or as part of a team and must follow all company policies, safety procedures, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead cranes and/or wall-walker cranes using remote or pendant controls.
• Secure appropriate rigging devices for safely lifting tubing and raw materials.
• Transport raw materials and finished parts using cranes, forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material-handling equipment.
• Perform daily safety inspections and complete applicable equipment and workstation checklists.
• Set up and operate the BLM LT8 tube laser, adjusting cutting parameters such as speed, power, and focus to meet specifications.
• Load production programs and verify correct jaws, tooling, and machine settings for each job.
• Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to ensure proper hole placement, tolerances, and dimensions.
• Inspect parts for accuracy using various measurement tools.
• Monitor machine operation and perform basic troubleshooting to maintain cut quality and prevent equipment damage.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks including changing nozzles, filters, lenses, and consumables as needed.
• Utilize computer systems for documentation, labeling, scanning, and printing work order information.
• Grind and finish parts using grinders, sanders, or other tools as required.
• Label, package, and stage completed products for shipping using proper materials and banding equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including sweeping metal shavings and clearing debris.
• Participate in required safety, quality, and job-specific training sessions.

Essential Skills

• Ability to operate metal cutting saws or similar equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting work orders, blueprints, and measuring tools.
• Basic math and computer skills.
• Strong attention to detail and safety practices.
• Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical ability to perform tasks associated with medium work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with assembly and saw operation preferred.
• Understanding of mechanical, laser, drill press, and bandsaw operations.

Work Environment

The work environment is a non-climate-controlled metal and steel provider warehouse where PPE is required, including steel-toed metatarsals boots, safety vest/long sleeve safe guards, and safety hard hat provided. The environment involves loud metal being transported or cut by band saws and new lathe machines to perform cuts, with metal not manufactured at the plant but a lot of it is cutting prior to shipping to customers.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
