Structural Engineer

This Structural Engineer position offers the opportunity to join a family-owned, design-build commercial construction firm supporting projects throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. You will develop structural engineering plans and designs for commercial new-construction and renovation projects, working closely with a team of in-house drafters to deliver safe, efficient, and constructible solutions across a varied project portfolio.

• Visit job sites to assess and document existing structural and site conditions for both new construction and renovation projects.
• Determine and specify structural components required for project execution, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Coordinate structural designs with other engineering disciplines to achieve integrated, constructible, and cost-effective solutions.
• Review and edit project specifications and construction documents to maintain accuracy, clarity, and alignment with design intent.
• Conduct field observations of completed work and work in progress, as assigned, to verify quality and adherence to design requirements.
• Document whether observed construction conforms to project documents and identify any deviations or issues requiring resolution.
• Mentor graduate engineers in engineering fundamentals, design best practices, and professional standards, helping them grow in their careers.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high levels of design quality, organization, and responsiveness to project stakeholders.
• Participate across the project lifecycle, including site assessment, structural design, multidisciplinary coordination, specifications, and field observation.
• Collaborate with construction and project management teams in a design-build environment to support shared project outcomes and successful delivery.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• At least 5 years of structural engineering experience, preferably with commercial building projects.
• Strong knowledge of applicable structural and building codes and standards.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD for the development and review of structural drawings.
• Ability to perform job-site visits and field observations at active construction sites.
• Experience with building design in a design-build or commercial construction environment.
• Ability to coordinate structural engineering work with other disciplines and project stakeholders.
• Solid understanding of construction documents, structural site assessment, and project coordination.

• Revit experience is preferred and valued for integrated modeling and coordination.
• Background in building engineering and commercial building construction is beneficial.
• Experience in construction management or working closely with construction teams in a design-build setting.
• Professional Engineering license with a focus on structural engineering is highly advantageous.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills to support graduate engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail and a quality-focused approach to specifications, drawings, and field documentation.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, relationship-oriented, and customer-centered culture.

This is a full-time, office-based structural engineering position located in Pennsylvania, with regular travel to project sites in the surrounding region. You will work primarily from the company’s office, collaborating with in-house drafters and multidisciplinary teams, while conducting site visits to active commercial construction and renovation projects to observe existing and in-progress conditions. The project environment is a commercial design-build setting, where engineering and construction teams work closely together toward shared project outcomes. Physical aspects of the role include walking through construction sites, climbing stairs or ladders as needed, and working in proximity to typical construction activities. The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $150000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
