Position Summary
The Paint Robotics Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining robotic paint systems to ensure products are coated safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards. This position performs equipment setup, makes basic programming adjustments, inspects finished products, troubleshoots process issues, and supports routine preventive maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate robotic paint equipment and related conveyor systems.
- Start, stop, monitor, and adjust equipment according to production requirements.
- Load and unload parts while ensuring proper placement and orientation.
- Select the correct paint program, color, and operating parameters for each job.
- Make approved adjustments to robot paths, spray patterns, flow rates, air pressure, and coating thickness.
- Monitor paint levels, mixing ratios, booth conditions, and equipment performance.
- Inspect coated parts for proper coverage, color, finish, and thickness.
- Identify defects such as runs, drips, thin coverage, contamination, overspray, and uneven finishes.
- Complete required production, quality, material-usage, and equipment records.
- Assist with preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of robotic paint systems.
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and quality issues promptly.
- Follow work instructions, production schedules, quality standards, and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area using established housekeeping practices.
- Work with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering personnel to improve efficiency and reduce defects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, industrial painting, robotic equipment, or machine-operation experience is required.
- Ability to read work orders, operating instructions, and basic technical documents.
- Basic mechanical and computer skills.
- Ability to use measuring and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Ability to identify equipment or coating problems and follow troubleshooting procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable attendance and willingness to work overtime when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating or programming industrial paint robots.
- Knowledge of electrostatic, powder-coating, or liquid-paint applications.
- Experience with paint-mixing systems and spray equipment.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Forklift or material-handling experience.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all company, OSHA, environmental, and chemical-handling requirements.
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection when applicable.
- Review and follow Safety Data Sheets and hazardous-material procedures.
- Follow lockout/tagout requirements before entering guarded robotic areas or servicing equipment.
- Properly store, label, handle, and dispose of paints, solvents, and related materials.
- Immediately report spills, injuries, unsafe conditions, and equipment damage.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, reach, squat, and perform repetitive movements.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work around paint fumes, chemicals, dust, noise, heat, and moving equipment while wearing required protective equipment.
- Ability to distinguish colors and identify surface-finish defects.
Work Environment
This position works in a manufacturing environment near robotic machinery, paint booths, chemicals, moving equipment, and production noise. The employee must consistently follow established safety procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment.
