CNC Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Milling

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Manufacturing Engineer to join a growing manufacturing operation in the Middlebury, Indiana area. This position is hands-on and will be responsible for programming, setting up, troubleshooting, and operating CNC milling equipment, with a strong focus on Haas CNC machines.
The ideal candidate has a solid machining background and understands how to take a part from print to finished product. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being on the shop floor, solving manufacturing challenges, and improving CNC processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate Haas CNC vertical milling machines
- Develop and modify CNC programs using G-code and/or CAM software
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T
- Select appropriate tooling, workholding, feeds, and speeds
- Set tool offsets, work offsets, and machine parameters
- Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks
- Troubleshoot machining issues and make program/tooling adjustments
- Optimize machining processes for quality, cycle time, and efficiency
- Assist with new part launches and process development
- Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and waste reduction
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
Qualifications
- Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC mills
- Experience with Haas CNC equipment strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Proficiency with G-code and CNC programming
- Experience with CNC tooling, workholding, feeds, speeds, and offsets
- Ability to use precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- CNC machining or manufacturing engineering experience
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a production team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAM software
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machining
- Experience with process improvement or lean manufacturing
- Experience developing processes for new parts
- Experience with inspection equipment and quality systems
- Technical degree or equivalent machining/manufacturing experience
