About the Role:

As a CDL Operator within the construction industry, you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely and safe transportation of construction materials, equipment, and supplies to various job sites across the United States. Your primary objective will be to operate commercial vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining the integrity of the cargo. Responsibilities will include transporting trucks and equipment to and from the project site as well as working alongside TMS crews when not driving a truck or piece of equipment. This work may include assisting with the installation of lighting, signing, ITS, signal, or tolling components on the project. This position demands a high level of responsibility, attention to detail, and commitment to safety to support the overall efficiency and success of construction projects. You will collaborate closely with project managers, warehouse personnel, and site supervisors to coordinate deliveries and pickups, adapting to dynamic schedules and site requirements. Ultimately, your work will directly contribute to the smooth progression of construction operations by ensuring materials arrive on time and in excellent condition.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B as required by the vehicle type.
• Clean driving record with no recent major violations or accidents.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience, preferably in construction or heavy equipment transport.
• Ability to pass DOT physical examination and drug screening.
• Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience operating specialized construction vehicles such as boom trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, or heavy haul trailers.
• Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
• Basic mechanical skills for minor vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
• Previous experience working in the construction industry or related fields.

Responsibilities:

• Operate commercial vehicles such as flatbeds, dump trucks, or tractor-trailers to transport construction materials and equipment safely to designated job sites.
• Inspect vehicles before and after trips to ensure mechanical soundness and compliance with safety standards.
• Load and unload materials securely, verifying cargo against delivery orders and reporting any discrepancies or damages.
• Maintain accurate logs of working hours, vehicle inspections, and delivery records in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
• Communicate effectively with dispatchers, site supervisors, and other team members to coordinate delivery schedules and address any issues that arise during transit.
• Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, safety protocols, and company policies to minimize risks and ensure safe operation.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks and report any vehicle defects or required repairs promptly.
• Hands on installation of structures, poles, signs, conduit etc. related to construction projects.

The required skills for this role include proficient vehicle operation, adherence to safety regulations, and effective time management to meet delivery deadlines. CDL drivers must utilize their knowledge of transportation laws and vehicle mechanics daily to ensure compliance and prevent breakdowns. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with dispatch and site personnel, resolving logistical challenges, and reporting issues promptly. Preferred skills such as familiarity with GPS and electronic logging devices enhance route efficiency and regulatory compliance. Additionally, mechanical aptitude supports quick identification of vehicle issues, minimizing downtime and maintaining project schedules. Construction knowledge and use of tools to assist in installation of materials related to construction projects.
