About Iron Will Ventures

Iron Will Ventures Inc. builds practical, high-reliability solutions for mission-critical environments. We combine rigorous engineering with fast, collaborative execution to deliver results our customers can trust.

Description:

  • Support multiple DoW Hypersonics-related program offices with the development and flight test of missile systems
  • Serve as a telemetry subject matter expert to the flight test analysis team across target design, integration, and test, to include telemetry requirements development and assessment, instrumentation planning, and test analysis and reporting
  • Lead the definition of target vehicle telemetry and flight test instrumentation (FTI) requirements in collaboration with customers, vehicle and device-under-test engineers, FPGA/hardware developers, and range personnel
  • Assess and specify telemetry system architectures, including transmitter, antenna, and encoder configurations, based on link budgets, range requirements, and vehicle size, weight, and power constraints
  • Develop and review PCM data formats, telemetry encoding schemes, and decommutation configurations; direct design upgrades that reduce noise and improve data acquisition (e.g., PCB modifications, FPGA filter implementations)
  • Plan, configure, and support telemetry ground station operations during live test events, including receivers, decommutation systems, data recorders, and tracking antennas
  • Lead post-test telemetry data processing and onboard instrumentation data analysis, including GPS/TSPI trajectory reconstruction and kinematic correction, and generate vehicle performance reports
  • Develop and guide real-time telemetry display and post-test data analytics and visualization tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB) that support situational awareness during test events
  • Coordinate with test ranges on telemetry frequency, IRIG 106 compliance, and data delivery requirements
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with a dynamic team of experts in multiple technical areas to develop analysis and engineering tools
  • Travel up to 25%, including support of live test events at test ranges

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Master's degree in a STEM field (e.g., electrical, computer, or aerospace engineering; physics)
  • 12+ years working on missile defense-related or other DoD programs/projects, including significant experience with telemetry systems, flight test instrumentation, or range data acquisition
  • Note: Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 7+ years of relevant telemetry experience may be considered
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance, which requires US Citizenship
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace telemetry systems, including PCM encoding and decommutation, RF transmitters and antennas, link analysis, telemetry receivers, and data recorders
  • Working knowledge of IRIG 106 telemetry standards, including Chapter 10 data recording
  • Hands-on experience supporting live flight test events and telemetry ground station operations
  • Experience processing and analyzing flight telemetry, onboard instrumentation, and GPS/trajectory data
  • Proficiency with Python and MATLAB for data processing, analysis, and visualization; experience with C/C++
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with DoW flight test programs and processes, including DoW test range operations
  • Experience with COTS telemetry equipment (e.g., Quasonix receivers and transmitters, NetAcquire or DEWESoft decommutation, IRIG 106 Chapter 10 recorders, tracking antenna systems)
  • Experience with GPS post-processing and kinematic correction tools (e.g., GrafNav)
  • FPGA and/or PCB design experience for telemetry encoding, filtering, and interface hardware
  • Experience developing real-time, networked telemetry display GUIs
  • Experience in any of the following disciplines: Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC), Modeling and Simulation (M&S), 6-DoF/3-DoF trajectory analysis (e.g., TAOS, STK), aerodynamics, Design/CAD, Radar Cross Section (RCS) Signatures, Optical Signatures
  • Experience supporting proposals, technical white papers, and cost estimates (BOE/BOM)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently perform multiple tasks
  • Ability to communicate detailed technical information to technical and non-technical personnel
