Seeking a Credentialed Educator Who Loves Working with Students One on One

We are looking for patient, skilled, and enthusiastic tutors to join the Margot Tutoring Inc. team. In this role, you will provide one-on-one academic support to students in your subject area(s), build genuine relationships with students and their families, and contribute to a collaborative team of educators who take professional excellence seriously.

This is a part-time role with flexible scheduling. Sessions are conducted on a regular weekly basis, and hours are built around both your availability and student need.

Expected Hours: Approximately 3 to 20 hours per week, depending on student demand and your availability. There is room to grow within the organization for tutors who are a strong fit.

Start Date: Rolling. We are actively onboarding qualified candidates.

Job Responsibilities Include but Are Not Limited to:

• Delivering high-quality, one-on-one tutoring sessions in your subject area(s) for students from elementary through high school
• Assessing each student's current level, identifying specific gaps, and building a targeted plan for addressing them
• Maintaining brief, accurate session notes on Google Sheets
• Communicating proactively with the Margot Tutoring coordinator about any student concerns, significant academic gaps, or changes in a student's situation
• Building positive, trust-based relationships with students and, where appropriate, with their families
• Applying brain-compatible learning strategies that support real, lasting understanding rather than short-term memorization
• Participating in professional development as scheduled

Successful Applicants Should Possess:

• A valid NYS teaching certification with demonstrated experience in an educational setting
• Strong subject-matter knowledge in at least one core area (mathematics, English Language Arts, science, social studies, world language, business, or test preparation)
• Experience working directly with students in an instructional capacity, whether in a classroom, tutoring, or home instruction setting
• Excellent communication skills, both with students and with the adults in their lives
• The ability to explain concepts in multiple ways and adapt an approach when the first one is not working
• A genuine belief that every student is capable of success with the right support
• Reliability, punctuality, and a professional approach to scheduling and communication
• Reliable transportation to and from the students' homes

Non-Negotiables:

• NYS teaching certification (no exceptions)
• Consistent, reliable availability
• Timely communication with the coordinator and adherence to Margot Tutoring's professional standards
• A commitment to maintaining student confidentiality at all times

Massive Brownie Points For:

• Experience with Regents exam preparation, AP Exam or IB Exam coursework, or SAT Exam/ACT Exam test prep
• Background in academic coaching, executive functioning support, or learning differences
• Experience working with students who have IEPs, 504 plans, or identified learning disabilities
• Familiarity with brain-compatible or research-based instructional approaches
• Genuine enthusiasm for ongoing professional learning and a growth mindset about your own practice
• Experience working with homeschooled students or providing home instruction

Next Steps: Qualified candidates will be contacted to schedule an initial phone interview. Selected candidates will then complete a virtual interview and brief demo lesson. Followed by brief onboarding process, which includes a reference check and content exam, before being matched with students.

We were started in 2011 as part of Margot Enterprises and then split into Margot Tutoring Inc in 2018. Margot Tutoring Inc is run and managed by teachers. Therefore, we have hands-on experience in the classroom so that we are able to support the students and tutors. We believe that with the proper support every student can succeed. When hiring, we only hire tutors that show a love of teaching and tutoring, expertise in their content area, and a desire to continue learning and improving their own skills. Our tutors are tutoring because they enjoy working with the students and want to help them.
