A day in this role
Start by reviewing prints for drilling and geotechnical components, translating those specifications into efficient toolpaths. You’ll write clean G-code or generate programs in CAM, build robust setups, and run parts that demand mic-level consistency. From first article through final inspection, you own dimensional accuracy and finish quality.
What you will do
- Program CNC equipment using G-code and/or CAM to produce complex precision parts for drilling and geotechnical applications.
- Perform advanced setups: design and install fixturing, select tooling, and dial in work/tool offsets.
- Machine close-tolerance components from steel, aluminum, and specialty alloys to exacting standards.
- Inspect workpieces against blueprint requirements and validate critical dimensions.
- Troubleshoot machining challenges and implement corrective actions to improve cycle time and quality.
- Mentor CNC Operators and Assistants; share best practices in programming and setup.
- Maintain complete and accurate production and inspection records.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience.
- Strong proficiency programming in G-code.
- Proven ability to hold tight tolerances (±0.001").
Preferred background
- Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology.
- CAM experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360).
- Experience machining drill rods or downhole tooling.
Physical demands & environment
- Prolonged standing; ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regular exposure to cutting fluids, metal dust, and elevated noise levels.
- Personal protective equipment required at all times.
