Controller | $120-135K | Omaha, NE | Onsite | Direct Hire
A well-established Omaha professional services organization is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting and finance function as part of a planned leadership succession. This is a unique opportunity to learn alongside a longtime finance leader before gradually assuming full ownership of the function. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on with accounting while also wanting a seat at the table with company leadership. You will oversee core accounting activities, strengthen financial reporting and business metrics, and help leadership better understand what is driving company performance. The organization is looking for someone who can take a strong existing foundation and move the finance function forward through better reporting, technology, automation, and financial insight.
Your New Role
Lead day-to-day accounting and finance activities for the organization
Own month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Develop monthly and annual financial reports and meaningful business performance metrics
Provide ownership and leadership with clear insight into financial performance, trends, risks, and opportunities
Partner with project managers and business leaders to improve financial visibility and decision-making
Evaluate banking and vendor relationships for potential improvements and efficiencies
Lead and support a lean accounting and administrative team
Strengthen accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls
Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve efficiency
Utilize technology and financial systems to improve reporting and workflows
Explore practical applications for AI and emerging technology within the finance function
Serve as the organization's primary resource for accounting and financial matters
Your Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
Progressive accounting and finance experience
Strong hands-on general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting experience
Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis
Ability to develop management reporting and translate financial information into actionable business insights
Experience within a privately held, lean, or entrepreneurial organization preferred
Experience in engineering, architecture, construction, professional services, or another project-based environment is a plus
Experience partnering directly with ownership, executives, or operational leaders preferred
Strong technology aptitude with an interest in automation and process improvement
Deltek experience is a plus but not required
Strong communication skills and ability to partner with non-financial leaders
Your New Organization
This established Omaha organization has approximately 100 employees and operates in a collaborative, project-driven professional services environment. The company offers the stability of an established organization along with the accessibility and influence that come with an owner-led business. This position will work directly with ownership and have the opportunity to shape how Finance supports the organization moving forward. Rather than stepping into the position after someone has already left, the incoming Controller will benefit from a thoughtful succession plan and significant knowledge transfer from a longtime finance leader.
