The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for coordinating purchasing activities, managing vendor relationships, and overseeing the logistics process to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement and delivery of materials. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with operations, fabrication, and project management teams.
Responsibilities of the Position
- Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, equipment, and supplies in alignment with project requirements and company standards.
- Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to secure competitive pricing, quality assurance, and on-time delivery.
- Coordinate logistics, including shipping, receiving, and distribution of materials to various branches and project sites.
- Track inventory levels and collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure adequate stock availability
- Review and process purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies
- Monitor open orders and resolve discrepancies or delays with suppliers and freight carriers
- Prepare and maintain purchasing and logistics records, reports, and documentation
- Support cost-control initiatives by identifying opportunities for savings in procurement and transportation
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication, and teams to align purchasing and delivery schedules with project deadlines
Qualifications and Skills
- 2+ years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or logistics (construction or manufacturing industry preferred)
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bilingual, Spanish highly desired (Not Required)
- Strong negotiating and vendor management skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP systems is a plus
- Knowledge of shipping methods, freight coordination, and logistics are best practices
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position, e.g., standing or sitting at least 50% of the time
- Must be able to move/or traverse occasionally
- Must constantly operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, position a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as mouse, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
- Must occasionally ascend/descend stairs, steps, etc., stoop, kneel and crouch
- Must have the ability to communicate, exchange information
- Must be able to carry/lift boxes and/or materials up to 25lbs across various office needs
- Must be able to tolerate sound and noises in an office and warehouse environment and occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions
