Job Title: Food Services Worker / Dishwasher

Job Description

This entry-level role supports daily food service operations in a hospital kitchen by ensuring dishes and equipment are properly cleaned, work areas remain sanitary, and patients, visitors, and staff receive safe and timely meal service. The Food Services Worker / Dishwasher operates commercial dishwashing equipment, assists with meal tray assembly and food distribution, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and efficient food service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, trays, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment.
  • Operate commercial dishwashing machines and related equipment in accordance with safety and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen work areas, dish room, food preparation areas, and storage locations.
  • Assist with meal tray assembly and support food service distribution to patients, visitors, and staff as needed.
  • Stock supplies, dishes, utensils, and food service items throughout the department to ensure continuous operations.
  • Remove trash and recycling regularly and maintain clean, safe waste disposal areas.
  • Follow food safety, infection prevention, and sanitation guidelines at all times.
  • Assist cooks and food service staff with basic food preparation tasks when required.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous, and helpful attitude when interacting with patients, visitors, and team members.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards while performing daily tasks.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Food Handler Card (or ability to obtain one online prior to or shortly after hire).
  • Ability to stand on your feet for the entire shift.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consistency and reliability in attendance and job performance.
  • Basic cleaning and dishwashing skills in a kitchen or food service setting.
  • Understanding of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to work flexible days between Monday and Sunday, with schedules that may change weekly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service environment.
  • general labor, hospitality, or related service roles.
  • Comfort working with commercial dishwashing equipment.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills when working with kitchen and food service staff.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while performing repetitive tasks in a busy environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital kitchen environment at the Poway location on a first shift schedule (typically 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). You will work five days per week between Monday and Sunday, and scheduled work days may change weekly, so schedule flexibility is essential. The role involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the entire shift, often in a fast-paced and physically demanding setting. The dishwashing station is a wet environment, and non-slip shoes are recommended (though not required) to support safety and comfort. You will work around commercial dishwashing equipment and standard kitchen tools while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and infection prevention.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Poway, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
