Job Description Summary

Unified Community Connections is seeking a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to join its growing Assistive Technology Department. This position provides a unique opportunity for an SLPA with an interest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Assistive Technology (AT), and technology-based supports to develop or expand expertise in this specialized area.

The SLPA will provide AAC and AT training and implementation services to individuals with a variety of disabilities under the direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. Candidates with AAC/AT experience are encouraged to apply; however, extensive assistive technology experience is not required.

This is a community-based position that requires regular day travel throughout Maryland. Candidates must be comfortable driving to client locations and independently managing a flexible schedule and caseload. Travel reimbursement is provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide AAC training services based on plans developed by a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Provide assistive technology setup and training in areas including physical access, cognitive supports, and low vision.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving related to AAC and AT.
  • Assist with preparation and organization of training materials and resources.
  • Prepare written reports and required documentation.
  • Complete case management, including scheduling, billing, and service provision.
  • Maintain accurate training logs and relevant data to document client progress.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Travel during the workday throughout assigned areas of Maryland, including Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Frederick, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Washington Counties.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Completion of clinical requirements for Speech-Language Pathology Assistants as defined by the Maryland Board of Examiners.
  • Active Maryland Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license.
  • General knowledge of AAC and assistive technology.
  • Strong oral and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with AAC/AT service provision preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job-related activities and to reach, stoop, crouch, push, walk, stand, and lift up to 25 pounds.
