Position Overview

As a CDL Driver Manager, you will oversee all aspects of driver management, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, retention, and performance oversight. You'll work closely with dispatch, safety, maintenance, and operations leaders to ensure our drivers have the support and resources needed to succeed.

Your success will be measured by driver engagement, retention, operational efficiency, safety performance, and overall team effectiveness.

What You'll Do as a CDL Driver Manager:Driver Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, motivate, and support a team of CDL drivers.
• Build strong working relationships through regular communication, coaching, and mentorship.
• Foster a positive work environment focused on professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
• Recognize and reward driver achievements and outstanding performance.
• Address driver concerns promptly and work toward effective solutions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for driver support and development.

Recruiting & Retention

• Assist in attracting, interviewing, and hiring qualified CDL drivers.
• Develop initiatives that improve driver satisfaction and long-term retention.
• Build relationships within the transportation industry to strengthen recruitment efforts.
• Support workforce planning and staffing strategies to meet operational demands.
• Promote zTrip as an employer of choice for transportation professionals.

Onboarding & Training

• Oversee the successful onboarding of newly hired drivers.
• Coordinate orientation, company training, and compliance requirements.
• Ensure drivers understand company expectations, policies, and safety procedures.
• Support ongoing education and professional development opportunities.
• Help drivers transition successfully into their roles and establish long-term success.

Scheduling & Workforce Coordination

• Manage driver schedules to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate time-off requests, shift assignments, and schedule adjustments.
• Monitor staffing levels and proactively address coverage needs.
• Work closely with dispatch and operations teams to maximize service reliability.
• Resolve scheduling conflicts while maintaining service commitments.

Performance Management

• Monitor key driver performance metrics, attendance, and productivity.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching conversations.
• Provide constructive feedback and develop improvement plans when needed.
• Maintain documentation regarding performance, coaching, and employee development.
• Support initiatives designed to improve service quality and operational results.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote a strong culture of safety throughout the driver workforce.
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, company policies, and transportation standards.
• Monitor driver qualifications, certifications, and required documentation.
• Partner with safety teams to address incidents, coaching opportunities, and corrective actions.
• Reinforce safe driving habits and professional conduct.

Operational Collaboration

• Work closely with dispatch, safety, maintenance, recruiting, and leadership teams.
• Participate in workforce planning, staffing forecasts, and operational initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve driver performance and operational efficiency.
• Support company growth by maintaining a reliable and engaged driver workforce.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across transportation operations.

What We're Looking for as a CDL Driver Manager:Required Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Minimum two years of experience in transportation, logistics, fleet operations, workforce management, or a related field.
• Previous experience leading, supervising, coaching, or mentoring employees.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience handling employee relations and conflict resolution professionally.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and workforce scheduling platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• CDL Class B or higher.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, and onboarding CDL drivers.
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation industry compliance requirements.
• Experience managing driver schedules and workforce planning.
• Previous leadership experience within transportation, transit, fleet, or logistics operations.
