Job Title: Inventory Control Specialist

Job Description

The Inventory Control Specialist oversees all parts and supplies for coach cars and locomotives, ensuring accurate tracking, proper storage, and compliant handling of inventory in a warehouse environment. This role maintains strict adherence to corporate policies, health and safety protocols, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations while working closely with shop staff and project accounting to support day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory control for all coach car and locomotive parts and supplies, ensuring accuracy and availability.
  • Oversee inventory control of all supplies required for employees and contractors in their day-to-day activities.
  • Ensure proper storage, organization, and labeling of all inventory to maintain safety and accessibility.
  • Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing inventory, including receipts, issues, and transfers.
  • Collaborate with laborers to maintain shop inventory at optimal levels and prevent stockouts or overstocking.
  • Work effectively with all shop employees to ensure inventory is handled, used, and controlled in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support the implementation and use of a computer-based inventory control program and contribute to process improvements.
  • Work closely with the Project Accountant to ensure inventory costs are accurately recorded and expensed to the appropriate client and/or project.
  • Adhere to corporate policies, office procedures, and established health and safety protocols, including compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned, which may include basic mechanical tasks in support of shop operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with inventory control and inventory management in a warehouse or similar environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of inventory, including shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Strong quality control mindset and attention to detail in tracking parts, supplies, and materials.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with laborers, shop employees, and accounting staff.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple inventory categories and maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use a computer-based inventory control program.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices and willingness to comply with established protocols and regulations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent reading, writing, and reasoning skills).
  • Positive work history and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with operating forklifts is a plus and willingness to participate in required training.
  • Familiarity with overhead crane systems is a plus and willingness to participate in required training.
  • Experience in shipping and receiving operations.
  • Exposure to construction or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 30 standards is beneficial.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform related mechanical tasks when required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse environment that supports coach car and locomotive operations. You will work around industrial equipment and shop activities, handling parts, supplies, and materials in a setting that requires adherence to health and safety protocols. The position may involve standing, walking, and moving inventory throughout the day, as well as working flexible hours and overtime to meet operational needs. You will use computer-based inventory systems, interact regularly with shop staff and accounting, and may be trained to operate forklifts and overhead crane systems as part of daily operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rochester, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
