Job Title: Set Up Tech

FLSA Status: Non –Exempt

Department: Production

Reports To: Shift Supervisor /Production Manager

Schedule: 1st Shift, 2nd Shift, 3rd Shift, Monday – Friday (Sunday – Thursday for 3rd)

Location: Waterville, OH

Basic Job Functions:

This position is the primary technical resource for developing and documenting the extrusion process for new profiles (temperatures, speeds, cooling, pullers, cutters, and so on), as well as supporting production line changeovers and troubleshooting equipment / processes concerns. In addition, this position is a back-up for shift supervisor coverage.

Education and Experience:

· Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Experience: Plastic profile extrusion line set-up experience including the ability to handle all current resins, single/co-extrusion/tri-extrusion and ‘secondary’ inline processing experience (tape, foam, punches, printers, etc.).

Required Skills/Competencies:

· Must be proficient with using a tape measure to within 1/16”.

· Ability to use basic measuring and inspection tools such as tape measures, steel-rules, calipers, attribute gauges, gauge blocks and pins, go/no go type gauges, etc.

· Ability to use common hand tools and to setup and operate various common powered tools and production equipment.

· Ability to lift a minimum of 55lbs at any given time for purposes of mixing /re-filling hoppers

· Ability to read and comprehend production documents and simple mechanical drawings is a plus. Training will be provided

· Familiarity with the company’s quality system and applicable procedures, and the company’s work and safety rules and procedures, with training.

· Must have basic skills with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel); Training provided.

· Ability to use ERP systems; Training provided.

· Ability to initiate and maintain various production reports and records, with training.

· Ability to interact positively with supervisory personnel and coworkers.

· Ability to operate a lift-truck (forklift) (optional with appropriate training).

Essential Responsibilities

· Coordinates with Engineering on new profile extrusion trials, with primary responsibility for developing and documenting the process utilized with tooling provided to produce highest quality products and optimize productivity targets. Provides input to Engineering, as needed, for developing tooling changes required to achieve goals.

· Coordinates and completes line changeovers as needed to support production.

· Supports training and development of team members on operating extrusion process (i.e., continuous extruder, puller, trimming equipment, etc.) and operates lines when needed (as back-up).

· Supports developing identified team members to handle line changeovers, while retaining responsibility for successful performance.

· Audit quality and production performance, in accordance with work instructions (verbal and written) and inspection plans, throughout the shift to ensure quality requirements are being achieved and taking corrective actions as appropriate

· Operates small hand and power tools (i.e., screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, power hand-drills, routers, rivet guns, etc.) as well as powered machinery such as drill-presses, power saws, pneumatic and hydraulic punches, and other such equipment.

· Trains and develops team members, and well as completes, on count accuracy, packaging/skidding, and labeling in-process and finished product in accordance with work instructions (verbal and written), non-conforming material, and procedural requirements.

· Transfer stock and finished product either manually or by means of manually operated stock handling equipment such as handcarts and pallet jacks. May, upon successful completion of operator training and qualification, be assigned to operate a motorized lift-truck (forklift).

· Performs such other duties as may be assigned by management or immediate supervisor.

Reporting Relationships:

  • This position has no direct reports.

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $23.24 - $25.31/HR

US Physical Requirements:

  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis
  • Will lift, push, or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)
