Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) - Java

Location: Austin, TX

Schedule: On-site, 5 days per week

Contract Length: 12 months

Pay Rate: $50-55/hr

Job Description

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with strong Java development and test automation experience. This position will support backend services and APIs by developing automated tests, maintaining test frameworks, validating integrations, troubleshooting defects, and working closely with software engineers to improve system reliability and test coverage.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute automated tests for backend services and APIs using Java.
• Build and maintain test frameworks for integration and API validation.
• Create and enhance automation solutions using Page Object Model (POM) design patterns.
• Validate REST APIs, backend services, and system integrations.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects identified during testing.
• Contribute to automation framework development and backend service code improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering teams supporting payment and digital commerce initiatives.
• Participate in code reviews, testing strategy discussions, and quality engineering efforts.
• Partner with developers to improve system reliability and test coverage.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Java development experience.
• Experience with Java Spring Boot development.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
• Strong integration testing and API testing experience.
• Experience testing REST APIs and backend services.
• Experience with Page Object Model (POM).
• Experience with mocking tools.
• Ability to write and maintain Java code beyond test scripts.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with payment, commerce, wallet, or financial technology platforms.
• Experience contributing to automation framework internals and backend service code.
• Previous software development experience combined with test automation expertise.

This is a Contract position based out of Austin, TX.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Austin,TX.
