About Blank Canvas Studios

Blank Canvas Studios, a program of Resources for Human Development (RHD), provides services and supports to individuals in the St. Charles, Missouri area.

As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll work directly with the individuals we support, helping them participate in activities of daily living, access their community, and successfully work toward the goals outlined in their person-centered plans.

What You’ll Do

As a Direct Support Professional, you will help ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals we support while assisting them with daily activities, community involvement, and individualized goals. You’ll work alongside clinical and program staff to provide consistent, person-centered, and trauma-informed support.

Your Responsibilities May Include:

Individual Support & Independence

  • Provide supervision and support according to each individual’s Person-Centered Support Plan.
  • Encourage individuals to participate in activities that promote greater independence.
  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living based on their specific needs.
  • Provide assistance with meal preparation, personal hygiene, toileting, and other daily activities as appropriate.
  • Support individuals in achieving goals identified in their program plans.

Community Involvement

  • Help individuals participate in community activities and build meaningful connections.
  • Provide transportation to individuals as needed.
  • Assist individuals with accessing community resources and supports.
  • Provide transportation or assistance with medical appointments, Social Security needs, and other community-based services.

Health, Safety & Medication Support

  • Administer medications as needed and according to established procedures.
  • Promote the safety and well-being of the individuals receiving services.
  • Follow incident management and reporting procedures.
  • Provide support using trauma-informed care principles.

Documentation & Teamwork

  • Complete required documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals, families, coworkers, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Collaborate with clinical and program staff to ensure individuals receive consistent, quality services.
  • Provide support or coverage for other programs when operational needs arise.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, and complete required documentation in English
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Basic computer and internet skills
  • Ability to complete required employment screenings and clearances, including FBI clearance when applicable
Preferred
  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Previous experience working in human services

  • Schedule flexibility may be required based on program needs, which may include evenings, weekends, or working at different locations.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, reach, bend, stoop, twist, climb steps, and perform other physical activities associated with the position.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle as required.
  • Ability to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force, frequently exert up to 20 pounds, and/or regularly exert up to 10 pounds to move objects.
