Estimator – Metal Fabrication | ERP-Based
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
The Opportunity
A well-established, privately held manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in quoting and supporting a diverse range of metal fabrication projects, from initial customer drawings through production planning.
The ideal candidate combines strong manufacturing knowledge with estimating expertise and enjoys working cross-functionally with engineering, production, vendors, and customers.
What You’ll Do
- Review engineering drawings, CAD files, specifications, and customer requirements to determine project scope and manufacturability.
- Develop accurate, competitive, and timely estimates for materials, labor, machine time, tooling, outside processing, and subcontracted services.
- Prepare customer quotations using an ERP system, including quotes, BOMs, routings, and job travelers.
- Maintain material pricing, labor rates, vendor information, process standards, and BOMs within the ERP system.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, alternative manufacturing methods, and potential design-for-manufacturability improvements.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, scheduling, sales, and vendors to validate costs, processes, and delivery requirements.
- Obtain pricing for materials and outside services such as plating, powder coating, heat treating, and other specialty processes.
- Support RFQs, contract reviews, customer questions, and design changes with clear cost and technical guidance.
- Track quoting activity and win/loss information and contribute to ongoing estimating and process improvements.
What You Bring
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in metal fabrication, machining, welding, sheet metal, or a related manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years of estimating experience, preferably involving ERP-based quoting, BOMs, and routings.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, welding, machining, and finishing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, and material specifications.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with CAD file formats such as DXF, DWG, and STEP.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Infor Visual or a similar manufacturing ERP system.
- Background in cost accounting, operations planning, or production scheduling.
- Familiarity with nesting, CAM, or manufacturing time calculations.
- Knowledge of outside processing and subcontract manufacturing.
