Low Voltage Technician – Structured Cabling & Security Systems

Location: Melbourne, FL
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Pay: $22–$30 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Work Location: Onsite

System One is seeking Low Voltage Technicians for contract-to-hire opportunities in Melbourne, FL. We welcome candidates with experience in structured cabling, electronic security systems, or both. Candidates will be considered for opportunities that align with their skills and experience.

These positions support the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of cabling infrastructure and security systems in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.

Responsibilities

Depending on your experience and project assignment, responsibilities may include:

  • Install, pull, route, dress, label, and secure low-voltage cabling, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic, and coaxial cable.
  • Terminate patch panels, jacks, connectors, and related network infrastructure.
  • Install backbone and outside plant (OSP) cabling.
  • Test, certify, and troubleshoot copper and fiber cabling.
  • Install and wire access control equipment, including card readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, Request-to-Exit devices, and door contacts.
  • Install intrusion detection equipment, including control panels, motion detectors, glass-break detectors, and panic devices.
  • Install, position, connect, and test interior and exterior CCTV/IP cameras.
  • Troubleshoot cabling, device, and connectivity issues and assist with system commissioning.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, installation drawings, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with project managers, electricians, general contractors, network teams, and other trades.
  • Document completed work and maintain clean, organized installations that meet project and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
    • Commercial structured cabling installation.
    • Access control system installation.
    • Intrusion detection system installation.
    • CCTV/video surveillance installation.
  • Understanding of low-voltage cabling, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read installation drawings and follow project specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in commercial and construction environments.

Experience in every system listed is not required. Applicants with a strong background in either structured cabling or electronic security are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Experience

  • Fiber optic termination, splicing, testing, and certification.
  • Fluke testing equipment and copper cable certification.
  • Backbone/OSP installation.
  • Access control programming and configuration.
  • CCTV/video management system (VMS) programming and configuration.
  • IP cameras and network-connected security devices.
  • AV or video intercom installation.
  • Manufacturer-specific certifications.
  • Commercial construction or data center experience.

Work Environment

  • Onsite work in commercial, industrial, and construction settings.
  • Interior and exterior installation work.
  • Work from ladders, lifts, ceilings, and elevated areas as needed.
  • Lift and move cabling, tools, equipment, and related materials.
  • Travel to project sites may be required.
