Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing services organization in Hyannis, MA. This role is ideal for a hands-on financial leader who can strengthen structure, guide a small team, and bring greater consistency to reporting and operational finance. The position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a company that has expanded rapidly and now needs an experienced, detail-oriented individual to help build scalable financial practices.

Responsibilities:

• Direct day-to-day accounting operations across areas such as billing, accounts payable, contract-related financial activity, and general ledger oversight.

• Lead, coach, and support a small accounting team while providing clear direction, accountability, and career development.

• Prepare and review accurate financial statements, journal entries, reconciliations, and year-end reporting in accordance with US GAAP.

• Establish and strengthen internal controls to improve accuracy, reduce risk, and support reliable financial processes across the organization.

• Identify inefficiencies in current workflows and implement process improvements that create stronger financial discipline and operational effectiveness.

• Take ownership of accounting system enhancements and implementation efforts as the company moves away from heavily manual, paper-based processes.

• Partner with leadership to provide financial insight, support decision-making, and help align accounting practices with organizational growth.

• Oversee additional administrative functions related to HR support as needed while helping maintain effective cross-functional coordination.

• 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including prior leadership responsibility in a Controller or similar role.
• Strong command of general ledger management, journal entries, financial reporting, and annual close processes.
• Deep knowledge of GAAP and US GAAP standards with the ability to apply them in a practical business environment.
• Demonstrated success building or improving internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial workflows.
• Experience leading system implementations or major accounting technology improvements.
• Proven people management skills with the ability to supervise staff, provide mentorship, and foster a collaborative team environment.
• Comfortable working in an on-site setting and taking a hands-on approach in a growing organization.
• Background in accounting management within a mid-sized business environment; experience in a services-based company is preferred.
