Rail Propulsion & Controls Test Specialist

Where: Muncie, IN
Type: Full-Time with Benefits and Weekly Pay
Pay: $22–$30/hour (commensurate with shift and experience)

Schedules
  • 1st: Mon–Fri, 6:00am–4:30pm
  • 2nd: Mon–Fri, 2:30pm–11:00pm
  • 3rd: Sun–Thurs, 9:30pm–6:00am
  • Weekend Day: Fri–Sun, 6:00am–6:00pm
    • 36 hours paid as 40 with consistent daily attendanceno tardiness or early departures
    • Training on 1st shift for approximately 6–8 weeks prior to moving to Weekend Day
  • Overtime available Fri–Sun

What you will do
  • Execute tests on electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems: air brakes, diesel engines, and system interactions
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical faults
  • Perform track testing under strict operational safety rules
  • Follow detailed work instructions; record data with accuracy; install and configure special instrumentation
  • Operate locomotives and material-handling equipment (tuggers, forklifts, overhead cranes)
  • Interpret gauges, precision instruments, schematics, and flowcharts
Ownership and leadership
  • Lead troubleshooting to identify root cause and corrective action
  • Plan and manage daily assignments for safe, on-time completion
  • Communicate findings to quality and production stakeholders
Qualifications

Required

  • Skill Level I: 0–2 years of experience or a degree in electrical/mechanical engineering
  • Skill Level II: 2+ years of related experience or advanced technical expertise
  • Demonstrated capability with electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic troubleshooting/repair
  • Ability to read schematics and flowcharts
  • Strong communication skills for documenting and resolving non-conformances

Preferred

  • Experience in high-voltage environments and with advanced test equipment
  • Computer proficiency: Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Background in locomotive testing or adjacent heavy equipment fields
Physical demands and environment
  • Strength: Lift up to 50 lbs; work in confined spaces
  • Motion: Frequent standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, and stair climbing
  • Environment: Indoor/outdoor exposure to temperature extremes, noise, vibration, and oils
  • Safety: Follow PPE requirements and blue-flag policies without exception
