Job Description

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a growing finance team in Massachusetts. This role is ideal for an organized candidate who can manage core accounting activities, support a timely close process, and investigate variances with a high degree of independence. The position offers the opportunity to contribute across general ledger operations, reconciliations, reporting, and financial review activities while helping maintain accurate and reliable records.

Responsibilities:

• Record and post journal entries with thorough backup documentation to support accuracy and audit readiness.

• Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, clearing accounts, and other ledger balances, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

• Contribute to monthly and annual close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing transactions, and completing period-end adjustments.

• Examine general ledger activity to identify unusual items, missing entries, duplicate postings, or coding errors and follow through on corrective action.

• Support intercompany accounting by tracking activity between related entities and reconciling balances across organizations.

• Prepare and maintain schedules for accruals, prepaid items, deferred revenue, fixed assets, and depreciation.

• Verify that financial transactions are assigned to the appropriate entity, location, department, account, and reporting period.

• Assist with financial reporting, audit support, tax-related documentation, cash planning, and reconciliations tied to receivables, payroll, commissions, sales tax, and customer payments.

• Three or more years of accounting experience in a role with responsibility for general ledger activity and close support.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline preferred.
• Solid knowledge of month-end close procedures, journal entry preparation, and balance sheet reconciliation practices.
• Experience handling bank reconciliations, cash activity tracking, and accounts receivable-related reconciliations.
• Ability to review account activity critically, identify irregularities, and independently research the source of discrepancies.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, sorting, filtering, and data import/export functions.
• Familiarity with fixed asset accounting, accruals, deferred items, and other common period-end accounting adjustments.
