If you like the kind of IT work where you actually get your hands on the hardware, this one is worth a look. A long-established Twin Cities nonprofit is looking for a hands-on IT specialist to help its small tech team keep hundreds of users and devices running. You will split your time between helping people and working at the bench: setting up laptops, fixing hardware, managing inventory, and cleaning up the server room. It is steady, varied work in a mission-driven organization, with an easy commute right off major highways and close to light rail.
**About the Organization
**
Our client is a well-known Minnesota nonprofit with more than a century of history, serving families across Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Its main office is a modern leadership center in the south metro, and it supports staff and volunteers across several offices and outdoor program sites.
**The Opportunity
**
You will be a go-to person for day-to-day IT: working the helpdesk queue, deploying computers, keeping the loaner laptop fleet ready to go, and taking on hardware projects that a busy team has not had time to get to. No two days look the same.
**What You Will Do
**
Work the helpdesk ticket queue: triage, troubleshoot, and resolve user issues, and log clear notes.
Stage and deploy computers: apply updates, confirm apps are installed, label devices, update the asset tracker, and help users sign in and move their files.
Keep a fleet of check-out laptops clean, charged, and Intune-ready.
Run OS and software updates across workstations.
Track and organize IT stock, spare parts, and supplies.
Wipe decommissioned hard drives following a defined process.
List retired hardware for sale, handle buyer questions, and ship sold items.
Diagnose faulty hardware and fix it when you can.
Route, terminate, and clean up ethernet cabling in server racks.
**What You Bring
**
1 to 3 years in IT helpdesk, desktop support, or a computer repair shop.
Hands-on experience with Windows deployment, Intune, and Microsoft 365 / OneDrive.
Comfort with repair tools, ethernet keystone termination, and cable management.
Experience managing hardware inventory. Selling hardware online is a plus.
Clear writing for ticket notes, documentation, and vendor emails.
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
**Nice to Have
**
Hardware diagnostic experience (component swaps, board-level troubleshooting).
Basic reporting skills in Excel or a similar tool.
CompTIA A+ or similar certification.
