Anticipated Hours: End April thru Mid-August 30-40 hrs/week. Mid-August thru End April ~15-20hrs/week.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Assistant City Manager, this Intern position will provide research and analysis relating to general city functions, finance, parks and recreation, public works, and public safety. This position will provide assistance where needed and will report to different supervisors as various projects may dictate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in administrative activities of the City Manager's Office.
- Intern may be rotated into various departments to assist department heads with developing research and writing and presenting reports. Collect pertinent information through research, audits, surveys, etc, and analyze information using statistics and spreadsheet calculations. Present results through reports, memos, graphs, spreadsheets, and charts.
- Prepare and give presentations to city departments, department directors, and administrative staff and City Council.
- May assist with Risk Management meetings and reports.
- Assist in the preparation of City's monthly newsletter, reports, and other written information.
- Review and assist in the revision of city job descriptions, department policies and procedures.
- Assist departments as assigned in general administrative support.
- Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position, and is required to abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.
- Applicants will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience: Must currently be enrolled in a Masters of Public Administration Program. Preference given to applicants that are committed to working in local government.
- Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Be proficient in Google Drive Applications. Must be able to learn other programs as needed.
- Special Qualifications: Must possess valid driver's license.
