Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic maintains and repairs conveyor, bottling, and packaging systems. This role focuses on diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment issues, performing mechanical repairs such as motor changes, drive and belt replacements, gearbox work, and addressing faults on various production lines. The position also includes performing targeted preventive maintenance during scheduled cleaning windows to keep equipment running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service calls across the facility to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues on conveyors, bottling, and packaging equipment.
  • Perform mechanical repairs including motor changes, drive and belt replacements, gearbox repairs, and component adjustments on production machinery.
  • Resolve common equipment stoppages by fixing machines and conveyors, changing faulty cylinders, repairing photo eyes, and replacing chains and other mechanical parts.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities during designated cleaning windows, typically lasting 23 hours every 12 days, to reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify wear, potential failures, and safety concerns, and take corrective action to maintain reliable operation.
  • Use electrical schematics and basic electrical knowledge to assist in troubleshooting three-phase motors, switches, and related control components as needed.
  • Collaborate with senior technicians and other team members to share information, coordinate repairs, and support training for less experienced personnel.
  • Maintain an organized work area and ensure tools, parts, and materials are properly stored and used in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Utilize basic hand tools and personal tool set to perform repairs and adjustments on mechanical and electrical components.
  • Support production by minimizing equipment downtime and communicating repair status and maintenance needs to relevant personnel.
  • Follow facility procedures and safety practices appropriate to a food manufacturing environment while working on conveyors, blow molding lines, packaging lines, and related systems.

Essential Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on industrial equipment.
  • Experience or familiarity with industrial maintenance environments, particularly involving conveyor, bottling, and packaging systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Hands-on experience or working knowledge of hydraulics, motors, pneumatics, gearboxes, three-phase motors, switches, and conveyor systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical faults and basic electrical issues using schematics and diagnostic techniques.
  • Capability to perform light welding tasks as needed for equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Ownership of a basic set of tools suitable for mechanical and light electrical work.
  • Ability to work at least one weekend day while maintaining two days off each week.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction from senior technicians, and work effectively as part of a maintenance team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Industrial maintenance background in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
  • Electrical maintenance experience, including working with three-phase motors and switches, is a strong plus.
  • Experience in food manufacturing maintenance is a plus.
  • background working with pumps and hydraulic systems is highly desirable.
  • Comfort reading and using electrical schematics for troubleshooting is beneficial.
  • Openness to ongoing training and paid education in a related technical field.

Work Environment

The role is based in a standard food manufacturing environment featuring modern, well-organized production lines. Shifts run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., with schedules such as MondayWednesday and every other weekend, or WednesdayFriday and every other weekend. New hires can expect to work on day shift for approximately 46 weeks before moving to their regular schedule. The facility is cool throughout most areas but remains comfortable and manageable. Significant investment over the past several years has resulted in brand-new conveyor systems, blow molding lines, packaging lines, and other advanced equipment, creating a clean and efficient workspace. Steel-toe boots are not required, and employees may wear tennis shoes in accordance with facility guidelines.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Little Rock, AR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
