Position Overview

Direct Counsel is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney to join the Fayetteville office of a nationally recognized law firm.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to develop a sophisticated litigation practice while working alongside experienced partners in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

The position offers exposure to a diverse range of complex civil litigation matters, including commercial litigation, insurance defense, product liability, construction disputes, and personal injury defense.

The successful candidate will gain immediate hands-on experience managing litigation matters, preparing cases for trial, taking and defending depositions, and participating in court proceedings. Key Responsibilities
  • Handle a broad range of complex civil and commercial litigation matters.

  • Conduct legal research and analysis to develop effective litigation strategies.

  • Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and other substantive legal documents.

  • Take and defend depositions, including preparing witnesses and developing deposition strategies.

  • Participate in court appearances, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations.

  • Assist with all phases of litigation, including case evaluation, discovery, pretrial preparation, and trial proceedings.

  • Communicate directly with clients regarding case developments, litigation strategies, and potential resolutions.

  • Collaborate closely with partners, associates, and support staff to effectively manage litigation matters.

  • Maintain organized case files, manage deadlines, and balance multiple active matters.

  • Develop litigation skills through direct mentorship and collaboration with experienced attorneys across the firm's national offices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • Active membership in good standing with the Arkansas State Bar, or eligibility to obtain admission within one year of hire through examination or waiver.

  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet litigation deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative legal team.

  • Strong professional judgment, attention to detail, and commitment to exceptional client service.

  • Willingness to learn and develop litigation skills under the guidance of experienced attorneys.

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of civil litigation experience, particularly in commercial litigation, insurance defense, product liability, construction litigation, or personal injury defense.

  • Experience drafting pleadings, substantive motions, and discovery responses.

  • Experience taking or defending depositions, attending hearings, or participating in trial preparation.

  • Strong academic credentials, law review experience, or prior judicial clerkship.

  • Demonstrated interest in developing a long-term career in complex civil litigation.
