Title: Sr. Manufacturing Engineer - Plant Relocation Project Manager
Location: United States – Significant Travel to Project Locations in IL, PA, CA, TX, NV
Pay Rate: $55-65+ per hour plus per diem
Employment Type: Long term contract (12 months anticipated, potentially longer)

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced manufacturing engineering and project management professional to lead complex plant relocations, consolidations, closures, expansions, equipment transfers, and manufacturing start-ups. You'll have significant ownership of project schedules, budgets, facility layouts, equipment moves, installation, commissioning, production transfers, and ramp-up.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant Relocation & Project Leadership
Lead end-to-end planning and execution of manufacturing plant relocations, consolidations, closures, expansions, and start-ups.
Develop comprehensive project plans covering schedules, milestones, budgets, resources, risks, and implementation strategies.
Coordinate production shutdowns, equipment moves, transportation, installation, commissioning, start-up, and production ramp-up.
Establish project governance, responsibilities, milestones, reporting structures, and communication plans.
Track project performance and proactively resolve issues involving schedule, cost, safety, quality, or customer delivery.
Lead regular project reviews and communicate status, risks, decisions, and corrective actions to senior leadership.
Manufacturing Engineering & Facility Planning
Evaluate manufacturing processes, plant layouts, production flows, equipment requirements, utilities, and facility infrastructure.
Develop optimized layouts focused on material flow, safety, productivity, capacity, quality, and operational efficiency.
Coordinate equipment disconnection, rigging, transportation, installation, and recommissioning.
Determine equipment and infrastructure requirements for receiving facilities.
Coordinate electrical, mechanical, compressed air, utility, foundation, structural, crane, and material-handling requirements.
Oversee equipment installation, validation, commissioning, and production readiness.
Identify opportunities to improve processes and layouts rather than simply replicate existing manufacturing configurations.
Qualifications:
Must have 15-20+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, plant engineering, operations, capital projects, or manufacturing project management.
Must have a Bachelor's degree preferred in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
Must have demonstrated experience leading significant plant relocations, consolidations, closures, greenfield/brownfield start-ups, or major production transfers.
Significant experience managing large, complex capital projects and project budgets.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, plant utilities, production equipment, facility infrastructure, and material flow.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple contractors, vendors, engineering resources, and cross-functional teams.
Experience developing and managing detailed project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and implementation plans.
Must be able to travel 75%.
