Job Description

Job Description

Robert Half Finance and Accounting and Kevin Sweet have partnered with a growing industrial services organization seeking a Controller to serve as the company’s most senior accounting and finance leader. This is a newly created position with significant opportunity to build, improve, and transform the finance function.

This is not a traditional Controller role focused solely on month-end close. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and hands-on business partner who can build accounting infrastructure, improve processes, connect operational data to financial results, and provide meaningful insight to ownership.

For additional information and confidential consideration, please contact Kevn Sweet directly at or via email at

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the transition from cash-basis to accrual-basis accounting
  • Design and implement accounting processes, controls, and a scalable month-end close
  • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow planning
  • Lead and develop the accounting team
  • Integrate operational/field-service systems with QuickBooks
  • Improve the flow of job, labor, materials, and billing data into accounting
  • Develop reporting and dashboards around job profitability, margins, labor utilization, and pricing
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, workflow technology, and AI
  • Partner directly with ownership and senior leadership on financial and operational decisions
  • Serve as the internal leader for the company’s finance technology and reporting infrastructure

Why This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity for a Controller who wants to build rather than inherit.

You’ll have the opportunity to establish the accounting infrastructure, implement new processes and technology, improve financial visibility, and help create the financial foundation needed to support continued growth.

Ideal Background

  • Bachelor degree in accounting or finance, MBA is preferred
  • CPA or parts passed is preferred but not required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Prior Controller or senior finance leadership experience
  • Proven experience converting an organization from cash to accrual accounting
  • Experience building accounting processes and internal controls from the ground up
  • Industrial services, field services, environmental services, industrial maintenance, or similar industry experience
  • Experience integrating operational software with QuickBooks or another accounting/ERP system
  • Strong operational and financial analysis skills
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead systems and process improvement initiatives
  • Comfortable working directly with ownership and serving as a trusted financial advisor
  • Genuine interest in automation and practical AI applications within accounting and finance
