  • Recent graduates will not be considered.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder.
  • This position is onsite in Lake Mary, FL.
  • Please apply only if you meet the required qualifications and hands-on experience listed below.

About the Role

Laser Photonics Corporation is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer – Automation & Controls to support the design, troubleshooting, integration, and improvement of advanced laser processing and automation equipment.

The primary focus of this position is systems-level electrical and controls troubleshooting, along with creating and editing electrical schematics, selecting components, developing and maintaining BOMs, and supporting automation and motion-control systems.

The ideal candidate can independently diagnose complex electrical, controls, and software-related problems with little or no supervision. You should be comfortable working directly with equipment and connecting to motors, drives, PLCs, cameras, and other devices through serial, USB, Ethernet, and other communication interfaces.

Our equipment uses lasers for cleaning, engraving, marking, welding, and other industrial applications. Prior laser experience is helpful but not required. Strong hands-on experience with electrical systems, PLCs, motion control, automation, and troubleshooting is more important.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot complete systems-level electrical, controls, and software issues independently.
  • Diagnose problems involving PLCs, motors, servo drives, stepper motors, cameras, sensors, actuators, and other industrial equipment.
  • Create, edit, and update electrical schematics to accurately reflect current hardware and wiring.
  • Maintain accurate as-built electrical documentation.
  • Create electrical system drawings for both high-voltage and low-voltage circuits.
  • Develop panel layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control-system documentation.
  • Select electrical, automation, and control components for new and existing systems.
  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) tied to schematics and assemblies.
  • Maintain disciplined document control, including revisions, traceability, and as-built records.
  • Program, modify, troubleshoot, and commission PLC systems.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot stepper motors and servo drives.
  • Configure and integrate servo motors, drives, actuators, and encoders.
  • Support multi-axis motion-control systems.
  • Perform PID control and motion tuning.
  • Connect directly to equipment through serial, USB, Ethernet, and other interfaces.
  • Use manufacturer and proprietary software to communicate with, configure, troubleshoot, and debug equipment.
  • Support machine vision, cameras, sensors, and other smart devices.
  • Support the integration and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Develop and implement custom automation and motion-control systems from concept and architecture through prototyping, testing, commissioning, and deployment.
  • Work with robotics and automated systems, including Fanuc or other industrial robot platforms.
  • Learn new technologies, equipment, and software with minimal supervision.
  • Support continuous improvements to existing products, machines, and manufacturing processes.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • 3–5+ years of relevant professional Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or closely related experience.
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder.
  • Recent graduates will not be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience creating and editing electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD or similar electrical CAD software.
  • Experience with electrical panel layouts and both high- and low-voltage systems.
  • Experience selecting electrical and control components.
  • Experience creating and maintaining BOMs.
  • Strong understanding of electrical documentation, revision control, and as-built documentation.
  • Hands-on experience programming, configuring, and troubleshooting stepper motors and/or servo drives.
  • Experience with servo motors, drives, actuators, and encoders.
  • Experience with multi-axis motion-control systems.
  • Strong systems-level electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to independently diagnose problems involving multiple electrical, software, and control-system components.
  • Ability to connect to and communicate with equipment using serial, USB, Ethernet, or other industrial interfaces.
  • Ability to use manufacturer or proprietary software to configure and troubleshoot industrial equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate technical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial laser systems.
  • Python programming experience.
  • C++ programming experience.
  • Experience programming or integrating Fanuc robotic systems.
  • Experience with other industrial robot platforms.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, and similar protocols.
  • Experience with machine vision, cameras, sensors, or other smart devices.
  • Experience designing and implementing custom automation and motion-control systems.
  • Experience taking automation systems from concept and architecture through prototyping, testing, commissioning, and deployment.
  • Experience with servo motor and servo drive setup and integration.
  • Experience with actuators and encoders.
  • Experience with multi-axis motion control.
  • Experience with PID control and motion tuning.
  • Experience with industrial automation equipment and machine integration.
  • Experience in manufacturing, robotics, laser processing, defense, aerospace, or other advanced industrial environments.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, technically strong, and comfortable figuring things out independently.

This is not a position for someone whose experience is limited to classroom projects, internships, or basic electrical design. The successful candidate should have real-world experience troubleshooting and working directly with PLCs, electrical systems, motors, drives, automation equipment, motion-control systems, and industrial machinery.

You should be comfortable being handed a machine or system that is not working properly and determining what is wrong, why it is wrong, and how to fix it.

Please Apply Only If You Meet the Requirements

If you do not have 3–5+ years of relevant professional experience, are a recent graduate, or are not a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder, please do not apply.
