We are looking for a compassionate and organized Patient Access Specialist to support patient access operations in Roanoke, Virginia. This contract to hire opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys helping patients, coordinating front-end administrative tasks, and contributing to a smooth experience in a busy healthcare setting. In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for patients while handling registration, scheduling, insurance review, and payment-related activities with accuracy and professionalism. Must be available for rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends, to be considered for the position - potential for daytime and overnight openings, flexibility preferred.
Responsibilities:
• Greet patients and visitors professionally and help create a welcoming experience from arrival through check-in.
• Complete patient intake and registration tasks, ensuring demographic and account information is entered accurately and kept current.
• Review insurance coverage details and confirm eligibility to support timely and accurate patient access processes.
• Arrange, update, and confirm appointments while communicating clearly about scheduling changes or next steps.
• Receive co-payments and other patient payments, maintain accurate transaction records, and support daily balancing activities.
• Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to keep patient movement efficient and reduce delays throughout the day.
• Respond to patient questions and concerns with empathy, resolving routine issues and directing more complex matters to the appropriate team.
• Follow privacy and confidentiality standards at all times to protect sensitive patient and organizational information.
• Previous experience in customer service, patient access, medical reception, or a similar healthcare support role.
• Working knowledge of patient registration procedures, appointment scheduling, and front-desk administrative workflows.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, visitors, and internal teams.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable handling payment collection and basic cash reconciliation responsibilities.
• Familiarity with confidentiality requirements and best practices for protecting patient information.
