POSITION SUMMARY
This role plays a vital part in maintaining the integrity of our revenue cycle by verifying documentation accuracy and reducing denial occurrences through auditing and accurate coding. The employee will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of medical terminology and coding standards, and a commitment to ensuring billing accuracy and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and assign appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes based on physician charges, accessing hospital portals to verify that all billing codes accurately reflect documented patient services and procedures.
- Ensure that patient record documentation meets coding and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with the Denials Department to identify and analyze recurring patterns of omissions, errors, or documentation discrepancies. Communicate findings to Administration to elicit corrective actions and reduce future issues.
- Code hospital consults, follow ups, and diagnostic testing.
- Code diagnostic testing performed within the clinic as required.
- Conduct daily reviews to detect and correct billing errors or omissions.
- Audit charts for completeness and accuracy, partnering with the Medical Records Department to ensure documentation integrity across clinic notes, hospital records, and diagnostic reports.
- Verify the presence and accuracy of all required details, such as diagnoses, indications, and physician signatures.
- Identify cloned notes or other documentation irregularities to maintain compliance and uphold documentation standards.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Interventional and general cardiology experience required
- 3-5 years of related experience in the field of medical billing and coding required
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent preferred
- Medical Billing and Coding certificate or relevant coursework preferred
- Strong knowledge of coding guidelines, payer policies, and documentation standards
