Hiring an Associate Attorney with experience in Trusts, Estates, and Elder Law

Position: Mid-Level Associate

Location: Laytonsville, MD

Type: Full-Time; In-Office

This role is an excellent fit for an attorney who believes families come first, values meaningful client relationships, and takes pride in doing excellent work as part of a collaborative team. Working alongside an experienced senior attorney, you will partner closely with paralegals and support staff to guide clients through the estate planning processfrom initial design meetings through plan signing and implementationwith warmth, clarity, and candor. The ideal candidate is compassionate and detail-oriented, communicates clearly through important and sometimes sensitive conversations, and brings a strong sense of ownership to their work. We’re looking for someone who is committed to serving clients well, supporting their teammates, and ensuring each matter moves forward thoughtfully, accurately, and on time.

Compensation:

$110,000 - $125,000 yearly


Responsibilities:

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Builds meaningful relationships with clients and approaches estate planning as helping families make thoughtful decisionsnot simply producing documents.
  • Treats every client with humanity, compassion, and respect, particularly when navigating sensitive family dynamics or difficult conversations.
  • Takes ownership of client matters from start to finish, proactively identifying next steps, solving problems, and keeping matters moving forward.
  • Communicates with clients clearly and candidly, explaining complex legal concepts and recommendations in plain language without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Works collaboratively with paralegals and support staff, providing clear drafting instructions, timely review, and constructive feedback that helps the entire team succeed.
  • Produces and reviews high-quality work with careful attention to detail, consistency, and the client’s individual goals and circumstances.
  • Develops thoughtful planning strategies that appropriately address tax considerations, fiduciary roles, guardianship, asset coordination, and other issues relevant to the client’s plan.
  • Conducts signing meetings with warmth, professionalism, and efficiency, ensuring clients leave understanding their plan, the decisions they have made, and what comes next.
  • Follows through on commitments, meets deadlines, and can be counted on by both clients and teammates.
  • Continues to learn and grow, welcomes feedback, and looks for ways to improve their own work and the client experience.

Qualifications:

Our preferred candidate:

  • Is an active member of the Maryland Bar and has at least two years of experience in estate planning and/or estate administration.
  • Has the knowledge, judgment, and confidence to independently manage client matters after an appropriate period of orientation, training, and support.
  • Leads with compassion and humanity, helping clients feel heard, respected, and well cared for during importantand sometimes difficultconversations.
  • Communicates with clarity and candor, giving clients straightforward guidance while making complex legal concepts easier to understand.
  • Takes ownership of their work and follows matters through to completion rather than waiting to be reminded of the next step.
  • Is proactive, organized, and detail-oriented, with high standards for both the quality and timeliness of their work.
  • Is hungry to learn, grow, and contribute and is willing to put in the effort necessary to provide an exceptional client experience.
  • Values collaboration and understands that serving clients well is a team effort. They are dependable, supportive of their colleagues, and willing to step in when needed.
  • Brings professionalism, good judgment, integrity, and a positive presence to the team.
  • Is comfortable using technology and willing to learn new systems. Experience with Clio, Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is a plus.
