Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Laboratory Director to lead the day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory at Liberal, Kansas.
The Laboratory Director will oversee laboratory operations across multiple testing disciplines while ensuring appropriate staffing, regulatory compliance, quality control, and efficient patient service.
The clinical laboratory provides comprehensive testing across:
- Chemistry
- Hematology
- Serology
- Urinalysis
- Coagulation
- Blood Bank
- Molecular
- Microbiology
The laboratory also supports outpatient testing Monday–Friday from 6:00 AM–6:00 PM and processes testing for affiliated clinics throughout the surrounding area.
-> Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and direct the daily operations of the clinical laboratory.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and operational direction to laboratory staff.
- Maintain the ability to work hands-on across all analytical areas of the hospital laboratory when needed.
- Ensure appropriate staffing and coverage across all shifts.
- Monitor laboratory quality control and performance.
- Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Lead and coordinate College of American Pathologists (CAP) survey preparation and compliance activities.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure laboratory policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Assist with staffing coverage and step into laboratory areas when staffing shortages occur.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership, medical staff, and other departments to support quality patient care.
- Participate in shared on-call responsibilities and provide callback support when necessary.
Laboratory Staffing
The laboratory currently operates with:
Evening Shift
- 3–4 Medical Technologists
- 2 Phlebotomists
Night Shift
- 1 Medical Technologist
- 1 Phlebotomist
The Laboratory Director will participate in shared on-call coverage with other laboratory staff.
-> Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university in one of the following or a related field:
- Chemical Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- Biological Sciences
- Clinical Laboratory Science
- Medical Technology
- Graduate of a CAHEA-accredited Medical Technology program or equivalent.
- ASCP certification required.
- Minimum 5 years of medical laboratory experience.
- Minimum 2 years of hospital laboratory supervisory or management experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience across multiple laboratory disciplines.
- Direct experience with CAP surveys and accreditation requirements.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance, quality control, and staffing operations.
