The Role

This position will own the financial management and billing activities for a portfolio of projects throughout the full project lifecycle. You'll partner closely with Project Managers and operational leaders to ensure projects remain financially healthy while managing everything from project setup and contract terms to invoicing, forecasting and collections.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Manage high-volume project billing across a portfolio of active projects
  • Partner with Project Managers to review project budgets, staffing plans, fees and financial performance
  • Review contracts and understand terms related to billing and fee management
  • Prepare accurate and timely client invoices in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Monitor project performance, including actual vs. budget results, and identify potential issues or trends
  • Review project labor and expenses for accuracy and appropriateness
  • Coordinate consultant invoices and payments
  • Monitor accounts receivable and partner with Project Managers on collection efforts
  • Provide financial reporting and analysis to project and office leadership
  • Support project setup and financial maintenance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Serve as a financial resource to Project Managers and operational teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and efficiencies

Project Accountant/Billing Experience Requirements:

  • Ideally 4+ years of project accounting and/or project billing experience
  • Experience working in a high-volume billing environment
  • Experience supporting longer-term, complex projects strongly preferred
  • Architecture, engineering, construction or professional services experience is a plus, but industry is flexible
  • Ability to understand contracts and apply billing and fee terms
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data
  • Deltek experience is a plus, but not required
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to partner effectively with project and operational leaders
  • Degree preferred, but not required relevant experience is valued over credentials
